Molumby not even on the bench for the first Brighton game of the season. Still behind the likes of Dale Stephens. Should probably give it a few weeks for a pattern to emerge but another year in the Championship with Millwall or another club looking more likely it would seem.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions just yet. If the incumbents don't perform well, and Molumby does exceptionally well in Thursday's cup match, who knows? Sounds like he'll go out on loan though based on his comments if he isn't assured playing time so I'm sure he'll get more action either way.

True, and Connolly didn't walk into the first team at the start of last season either and still played a good amount of football during the season. He can afford to wait it out for a few weeks and see.

They do tend to play three central midfielders too so there is an opportunity there. I see Connolly came on for Lallana on around 45 minutes tonight. Injury?

Just saw the goals but for the penalty, it was a goal I feel I’ve seen a dozen times from Brighton. Keeper passes the ball to centre midfielder. Midfielder receives the ball facing his own goal. centre backs have split wide to be options for the keeper. Midfielder loses the ball, either cause he’s pressed and tackled or in turning or in passing and the opposition move into the space.

Really don’t rate Brighton’s midfield. Lallana should be an improvement if he can stay healthy but it’s a midfield that Molumby should get be able to get into...

I know Potter is well regarded but I don’t think they’re much better than they were under Houghton really, despite pretty significant investment

Is he confirmed right back? They’re already loaded with 3 centre midfielders. Not good if he’s right back

Hopefully not but could be. I'll watch it on Sky Sports see where he's lining out.

Dale Stephens drops to centre back. Molumby right wing back....not ideal. He needs to be central. Was pretty lost when I watched him for millwall on the wing last season

Can’t watch this anymore. I’ve wasted too much of my life watching Brighton frustrated. Now, Molumby at RB in a Brighton B team, not great for him. Go back to Millwall/Championship, Jayson. Another 40 starts in the championship will do him the world of good

Was he any good at it? Always good to know if a player has another string to his bow.

He had a good game. Arguably had a better spell playing at right back before being moved later in the game into midfield.

Portsmouth were outclassed though all over the pitch.

Game is still on, no? Brighton playing with 10 currently

Stephens left injured I assume which is no harm for Molumby

Played a nice ball out of defence in the lead up to their second goal, nothing too difficult but would have been dangerous if it went wrong. They're away to Preston next week now so he should get another start there you'd imagine, would be nice if he could make the squad at the weekend first.

Dale Stephens off to Burnley. Good news for the man who can't spell his own first name:

    Going back to Millwall.

Disappointing as I thought he was good enough for the Premiership.

Happy enough with that given that he's clearly not in Potter's plans for this season. Playing him at right back in the cup followed by him not making the bench at the weekend even with a few players out told it's own story.
