I prefer a smaller bench. The larger the bench, the more beneficial it is to bigger clubs IMO, who can have an elite specialist sub in each position. A limited bench requires more nuance/tactical soundness and can create interesting situations which add to the excitement of the game.
Praps. But from an Irish view, where many of our players are on the periphery of first team squads, it would be probably to our advantage.
There have been huge benches in international football for years, I'm not sure why it hasn't transferred over to club football so much yet. It would be good for youth development as more chance of a young player being on the bench to get a run in a game that is already won with 20 minutes to go etc.

International football is calling together a squad of 23 for one week every other month or so, so I guess there's no reason not to allow everyone on the bench having travelled all that way.
Different case to a week-to-week club side. As above, it just helps bigger teams get an extra advantage.
I'd rather Connolly (or whoever) was sent out on loan at a lower tier than be given a token 8th/9th spot on the bench.
Meh
I don’t know.
Here’s our best 11 plus our best 3 subs from our full squad against your best 11 and 3 subs from your whole squad.
I think that fair enough.
Why bring a travelling party of 23 and tell 5 of them they have to sit in the stand?
I think the three subs and a nine player bench thing is a hugely unfair advantage for the top clubs. I'd like to see it go back to one sub only, who must be able to play goalkeeper if called upon.
Preston interested in Molumby on loan according to Alan Nixon on twitter, who usually quite reliable for transfer information. You'd have to imagine Millwall will also be interested.

Interesting. Browne, Gallagher and Johnson are long-term starters in their team as central midfielders in the 4-2-3-1 (including the 10 spot). Ledson and Bayliss are there having coming in from League One sides previously. With rotation and his quality, I would have to imagine he would get plenty games sharing duties with the established trio. Better side than Millwall with a settled playing squad and formation. Although, I would have expected someone further up the table to take an interest and a trip abroad would be no bad thing either.
A bit may have been rejected for Molumby from Millwall. These guys reckon it was a club record. The club record presently stands at £1.5m paid for Ryan Leonard.

Only signed a new long term deal in the summer. Potter and Brighton obviously see him as a player with a future there. Millwall were never going to be able to steal him away for the sum that's been reported.
Browne, Pearson, and Johnson are all out of contract in the summer and could potentially leave during this window, so you can understand why PNE might want to bring in another midfielder as cover.
But it wouldn't be surprise me to see him go back to Millwall. He's obviously wanted there, did well for them before, and geographically it makes sense.
Decent move for him. Out of Brighton on the second day of the window - thought he might be held back for the FA cup game but good to see him go somewhere where he will get a fair crack at the first team.
Hopefully just the first of a lot of moves for Irish players this month.

Preston fans are very happy so hopefully that's a sign that he will fit into their starting line up.
One point that keeps coming up in that thread is the comments Molumby made about having spoke to the Irish lads at Preston before signing on- Browne and Maguire. A lot of posters are taking this as an indication that Browne is happy at the club and is going to sign another contract.
Browne's present deal is up at the end of the season. He turns 26 in April. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.lan...t-19453232.amp
If his deal is up at the end of the season and Browne is looking to move then they might cash in this month. It would be good to see Molumby and Browne playing regularly together there.
If Browne wants to have a crack at the top flight this is probably his best chance - I wouldn't be rushing to sign a new contract at Preston if I was him. The only thing is he's not a particularly high profile player, though, even though he is a key player at a top half Championship team, so I don't know how much interest there would be in him from Premier League teams.

Great to see these comments from Jayson.
“One of the biggest things for me is playing for my country and I wanted to go out on loan and play games to hopefully stay involved and keep getting picked for my country.
“There is no bigger thing for me and hopefully I can do well and kick-on again and try and get as many caps for Ireland as I can.”
Any chance of Preston Pressing On to the Premiership ?
Preston 3-0 down after half an hour on his debut. Sounds like they have picked their second choice defence (including Rafferty) and are having a bit of a shocker.
