Corey Chambers continued to keep Waterford out with a few early saves when, on 58 minutes, Wexford conceded a penalty when Ross Kenny rushed to the corner of the area to challenge a Waterford attacker who went down. Davy McDaid converted from the spot and Waterford were back level 1-1. Conor Sutton then came on as a sub for Wexford before, on 66 minutes, O’Sullivan’s dominance in the air paid dividends with a free header from a corner and Waterford were 2-1 ahead. With 15 minutes to go, Dobbs nearly scored an unlikely equaliser when he beat Matt Connor to a flighted ball into the box, but the header looped over Connor and wide. Shane Dunne then blasted a volley a couple of yards wide before Waterford should have made it three right on the 90 minutes, but O’Halloran couldn’t stretch far enough at the far post. So 2-1 to Waterford at full-time after a hard-working effort by Wexford to try to get something from the game. In addition to Corey Chambers, best for Wexford were Andy O’Connor and Mikey Byrne who worked really hard while Waterford had two real threats going forward in O’Sullivan and Daly.
