“If it hadn’t been for Michael Devine making a few saves, we would have been well-beaten,” fumed Murphy. We just did not work hard enough. I’m not happy with the effort that was put in, not happy at all.”
“It is sickening to see sides like Dundalk work harder than us. Our game is based on putting the opposition under pressure and when we don’t do that, we struggle to get going.”
“There are certain players who are getting a bit of stick from the crowd and they lack a bit of confidence when they have the ball.”
“Pressure is part of the game and we have all had it at one time or another. We must get over it and we must get back to helping and encouraging each other.”

At the cross almost every city players unfortunately gets abuse.
You only have to listen to some of the comments of those around you slagging players off for not getting the ball into the box early enough & when they do hoof the ball in give out as well.
Murphy must have been watching old 'Big Jack' tapes for put them under pressure tactics.

Hartigan might have been what was required but surely this was only if he was prepared to put in a bit of effort himself.
Of course you could argue,he didn't get the service but his passing, control and effort are awful in anyones book.
It's not a matter of understanding football. If Hartigan would make the effort, he would not have to put up with any stick. Most of the jibes against him are because too many times, he looks like he does not care. Hartigan could easily be the hero of the shed, if he just looked like it mattered to him, got stuck in and showed a bit of heart and spirit......

Besides 2 bad passes yesterday, I though Noel played well. AFIK he actually won all of his headers and many went to red shirts. In his 5 minutes he did look interested. Its a disgrace that he was booed from the outset again.
It's so hippocritical that people say that someone who walks out 5 minutes before the end of a bad match is not a real fan, yet will boo the team off at the end of that match, and at certain players who come on from the bench for the last 5 minutes.

I've never seen how slagging one of your own players does anything for the team/club. I haven't seen a city player do better when his own supporters abusing him yet.
Hartigan did play well when he came on butsays it all. Murphy confirms he has no plan B as many of us thought all along. OUT OUT OUTOur game is based on putting the opposition under pressure and when we don't do that we struggle to get going.
I sorry, no matter what people say I cannot accept that anyone who boos a player in a City shirt before he gets on the pitch is not a genuine fan.
Any player who wears the dearg agus bán should be afforded the respect that the jersey deserves.

and our game should be based on passing the ball around, playing attractive football, fcuk it we have the playerts to do it, and the results will follow this..
twas only 3/4 years ago we were playing some if not the best attacking football in the league, and we had the big crowds to match it..
now we play hoof football to that waste of space hartigan, in front of a half empty X, and an apathetic shed

We had two "attacking" forwards playing from the start on Sunday in front of an almost empty X and Noel Hartigan was involved in most of our attacks of the game having been introduced with only 5 minutes left. Get off Hartigans back, he doesn't pick the team or decide the tactics. Hartigan often plays the ball into space where an other city player should have run but instead they remain stationary and give Noel abuse for not playing the ball to their feet. Alan Carey gave me another lovely example of this on Sunday. Sometimes I watch Arsenal FC and think how good their passing is but if you watch carefully most of the time they play the ball into a space without even looking for a player. It all comes down to everyone being on the same wavelenght and having a basic understanding. While we have players who are good on the ball, a few of them are poor off the ball and rarely make good runs. Noel Hartigan has a better football brain than many of his colleagues!Originally posted by James

fair enough by all accounts Noel had a good game last Sunday..but these are too few and too far between. IMO
as for the wavelength thing thats a very good point peadar, but who chooses that, whos in charge of picking how the team are suppose to play?
anyway i never questioned his footballing brain, just his ability
point is big diff between knowing the path and walking the path and time after time poor old Noel seems to get lost even walking to the corner shop
