Must admit I'm biased towards the McCauls 'cos their uncle is Paddy McCaul of Athlone Town FC - one of the soundest blokes you'll meet. The "song" is embarrassing but then the Eurovision was always embarrassing and ultimately about the voting nonsense at the end.
Wouldn't it be great to have a real contest for, say, rock or folk bands? Just a thought.
Haven't watched it for over 20 years and don't intend to change a good habit.

[QUOTE=CollegeTillIDie]The Mc Cauls are up against it big time. It's a bit like the current Athlone Town team playing in the UEFA Cup... right Sir hamish?

Ahh, very funny and I'm terribly hurt.

I hate the er song but biased towards the McCauls because their uncle Paddy McCaul is Athlone Town through and through and a very nice bloke.

Anyway we beat Milan 0-0 in the UEFA Cup, so we did so we did!!

Thumbs up The Bosnian Chicks Entry

I think that the Bosnian group would score pretty well on looks alone. Voting will be political rather than musical. What odds would you give on a female contestant flashing her credentials during an act (hopefully not the Mary Harney lookalike! )?

Yes in the words of ABC! That Was Then ( 1975) and This is Now!
That was so long ago your centre forward's two sons are both playing in the EL now John ( Longford Town) and Robbie ( U.C.D.), and neither of them were born at the time!

God, you're in feisty form this evening!!!
Note you quoted a 20plus year old band/song from Sheffield to illustrate your point..
Anyway, when our new ground is built we'll be back at the top looking down on you lot.

    So there.

Sure nobody else has used that title for a hit song since. And the song was a hit in 1983, which is 8 years after your club's Golden Moment in Time.

Ah yes the 6,000 seater Field of Dreams... will it be called On Golden Pond II ?

Better to have had a golden moment than a club with none at all - oh, forgot the 0-0 draw with Everton.

Oh yes, I forgot we also have a couple of league titles plus League Cups, Leinster Cups etc etc.

When you are comfortably sitted in our plush seats in our new stands it will make the pain of your club's inevitable relegation battle a little less painful!!!

    Ahhhhhhhhh, I enjoyed that.

We are 2 days from Eurovision, and all you're worried about, is whether Eurovision threads are merged. If they are merged, let it be in here in the music section, as Eurovision is about a music contest. That's why this thread is in here. Post in here again please, when you have something to say about the actual show itself.

If you mean the semi, you won't catch the votes. There's no formal voting procedure, just the names of the 10 countries who receive the most points will be handed in envelopes to the presenters to announce who has qualified for the final. By 10.30, the semi show will be well over. If you can stomach the long, boring, voting procedure in the final, It will finish at 11.10pm.

Are you saying they do do some flashing or is that a wish ? Not bad, not bad, though the band name Femminem is a bit unlucky and not very original...

    .
That made me cry laughing, you really do take this too seriously...What is wrong with asking for 2 threads to be merged? I really don't care if it is in Off-Topic or Music, but seems like you will huff and puff if it's not. I assumed it would be moved and merged with off-topic as that was the longest and original one. Better not upset you anymore, you need to concentrate and prepare you mind...only 2 days to go, how inconsiderate of me. Slap on the wrists for me !

Though Katrina & The Waves will never compete for me with Youddiph (my favourite Eurovision entry ever since I first watched the show) I think "Love shine a light" was not that bad. The lyric was simple, as a popsong more or less requires, but it had a nice idea behind it, and the song was a nice tune.

Of course it will never be a nr 1 for me, I'm not really into pop music. But for its style and certainly as a Eurovision entry, it was a nice entry.

What I would like to find out is what happened with all participants afterwards... (maybe a good idea for that Irish Eurovision site ??)
I mean, some artists were already stars in their country and obviously a Eurovision entry will not change that no matter if the result was good or bad. But there have been some talented young singers and bands who made their first appearance to the big public via Eurosong, I wonder if they ever continued succesfully in music... They could be a huge star in their country and even neighbouring countries, or they could have gone back into anonimity... Would be nice to have a "where are they now" section on that site.

I remember one guy, it was a lovely song believe it or not -Mama Corsica in maybe 1993/93 (can't remember) French singer was Patrick Fiori, God I fell in love with him Looking back his hairstyle was horrific, he still sings now, but is famous in France, not really here, and he still looks great....

Anyone living in Glasgow who has bbc 3 kind enough to invite me so i can watch the semi-final??

Spotted a very sneaky plug for a Eurovision song while lazing around watching MTV earlier.... an explore Greece tourism ad popped up with the Greek entry song in the background, with the said very attractive lady featuring in the ad too lying on the beach and that sort of thing.... Sneaky votewinner there.... (that said, after the Dana International thing a while ago, hope she is a lady!)

Between 1995 and 2005 we have been outside the top flight for precisely one season !
We won the FAI Super Cup in 2000 that's right in the current millenium! We also played in the Intertoto Cup the same year. Did you know we are the only current EL team never to lose a home leg in European football ?

Well let me see now the last time Athlone Town won the FAI Cup we still had Pounds shillings and pence not to mention a Lord Lieutenant in the Park.
Longford Town and Derry City had not been founded and the Free State League consisted of 8 teams if I am not mistaken.. NOt having a go Sir hamish just stating the facts... sure Ireland used to win this Eurovision thingey every year... once upon a time !
