    Trevor Clarke (D Rotherham b.1998)

Southampton are reportedly pursuing Shamrock Rovers' 19-year-old Trevor Clarke: https://www.thesun.ie/sport/football...trevor-clarke/

[Southampton's] director of scouting and recruitment, Ross Wilson, was impressed on the night and there have been internal discussions at the club about tabling an offer.

Saints sacked boss Claude Puel last week but that will not affect transfer plans which are overseen by executive director Les Reed. And a decision is expected soon on whether to proceed with a low six-figure bid for the 19-year-old, who has played on both flanks and at left-back this season.
Clarke, an Ireland under-19 international, played at youth level for Middlesbrough, but has really impressed for Shamrock Rovers since returning to Ireland in 2015. Barnsley are also thought to be keeping tabs on him.

Here was Clarke's spectacular goal for Rovers against Bohs in Dalymount Park last month:

It was a "goal of the month" nominee on Soccer Republic.

His goal against Cork (also last month) in Turners Cross was nominated as well. It can be viewed here from 1m40s: https://twitter.com/SoccRepublic/sta...38397100658688

Love the anecdote in this article where he was willing to fight an army sergeant who swore at him in preseason training. Also, is Michael O 'Connor who is mentioned in this article any good?

I'm not sure Trevor is in any position to be complaining about people swearing after he swore twice on national television a few months ago!

Derby County interested in signing Clarke in January: http://leagueofireland.ie/index.php/...trevor-clarke/

The Dubliner was the stand out player for Rovers in the League of Ireland this season and had some great performances in Europe. The fee wanted by Shamrock Rovers is expected to be €475k.

Moving to Rotherham by the looks of it. I think he's the best underage left back we have. He's a genuinely resolute individual. Quick, can go past a player, hard as nails in a tackle, good technically and a good crosser of the ball. Bradley used this quote when departing "He definitely has the qualities, it's just a lot else has to fall into place." dunno if he's hinting at something. But, seemed like a nice grounded kid the one time I met him.

It was interesting that in the home game against Brann he was an unused sub, but when the final whistle went he genuinely seemed annoyed that he wasn't included while everyone else was celebrating like mad.

It's most likely that they were not using him cause they didn't want to lose the fee - but at the time, I felt it looked like an example of how resolute and single minded he is. Anyway, he has a real chance...

Interesting move. Though he could have got a better one but he should get plenty game time at that level.

Resolute individual is right. Isn't he a boxer too?

He's been second choice behind Kavanagh for a while now though. Said it on the LOI forum, but from what I've seen, he's not come back the same player from his injury.

I don't think Bradley meant anything other than to be a success in England you need lots to go in your favour, luck with Managers who like/ dislike you, luck with injuries (great feckin start today) and just being able for it in general , not to mention that another player comes in in your position.
He was really liked at Rovers.

Six weeks out, and no damage to his cruciate. Not the worst news.

Not ideal but relieving all the same. If he had signed for a better side to whom the fee wouldn't have been a concern (e.g. a Championship side) then he may have had an issue getting back in. Rotherham will be as keen to include him as he will be to be included.
