Something tells me you are basing this off the rumour on Facebook that he was released. A rumour that was immediately quashed.
Paul O'Connor out. Martin Smith in. Can't see how that would affect Duggie. If he can get his performances back up he will be back in the team.
Good to hear another defender might be on the way.
Same story doing the rounds last night in the MF before the game.
Why would Shane Duggan accept a release now?
Even if told he could go why would he?
More fake news.
Well on Facebook it was asked was he released. Someone replied to say they were just talking to his parents and they said it wasn't true and Mike Aherne (who knows Shane) also confirmed it wasn't true.
I very much doubt he'll see a lot of playing time over the next few weeks bar injuries to other players.
I would presume it would depend on attitude/performance in training from here on in. Hell of statement from the manager to drop the captain. Didn't seem like the team missed him all that much either. I have a lot of time for Duggan, but he hasn't been anywhere near good enough this season.

The performance from the midfield on Saturday was immense. Both players covered back and supported the strikers in attack. They covered nearly every inch of the MF.
I saw a tweet by andrew cunneen yesterday and I heard it from a club official on Saturday night at the game. Cunneen hasn't been wrong yet with these signings.
Smith was with the team in the warm up session before the game on Saturday also.
Paudie O'Connor makes the bench for Leeds tonight in league cup vs Newport County. Best of luck to him
Any more news on potential signings?
That midfielder isn't being signed now either are the other two trialists.
I wonder if the generally...adequate performances of the last two games have them thinking they don't need to add to the squad anymore, that they have enough to eke out however few more points more they need to secure top tier football next season. Which is dangerous thinking really, albeit with a certain logic.

I wonder if McDonald thinks the current squad is capable of getting by to the end of the season and avoiding relegation, and he's just waiting for a big clear-out at the end of the season.
That's the way it's looking now. Players should be fighting for a contract for next season now. There's barely 6 I'd like to see resigned though.
Even if that is the plan though, the kind of players he's hoping to bring in are surely more likely to be available now, between seasons in the UK, than they are between Irish seasons (even if there is a transfer window open then).
Martin Smith signing was due to happen but can't now for reasons out of the clubs control and I was told the other two trialists were nowhere near the level required so I think it's more a case of there not being anything available atm than not wanting to add.
Anyone I have spoken to too is adamant it's a lot easier to get good quality from England in January when lads realise they aren't gonna be getting the game time they hoped for.
