I remember a Cork band - oh, what were they called - not The Dixies or had they another singer other than Joe Mac or Brendan O'Brien? - anyway Dusty Springfield had a big hit at the time called "In the middle of nowhere" (very apt for BeeslowOriginally Posted by Superhoops
) - this Cork band were rehearsing it and did a cracking good version.
Many of the bands that time recorded many cover versions - or "tributes" as they called them - of international hits. The Hucklebuck, Little Arrows etc etc.
Chubby Checker made his name from the song and then, dance craze, The Twist (Let's twist again like we did last Summer) and Chubby actually officially opened the then new Emerald Ballroom in Beeslow. I actually managed to sneak into that gig (short pants an' all) but some fcuking Guard spotted me and chucked me out - the bloody b@llocks. I think I was about 8 or so.![]()

Funny, Shaw and Springfield are kinda gay icons - my reaction to both was most certainly not like that - reckoned it brought on advanced puberty. LOL
