    Unhappy CCFC Records....?

Time for nostalgia methinks with the death of our season on 20.01.02.

What is Cork's record league win?
What is their record league and FAI cup wins?
What about the record defeats in the above competitions?

Were any you lads there? If so, how did it feel? I think Rovers gave City the biggest spanking of any games I've been at,
4-1 in the cup semi-final and might have been the same score in the second leg. I remember Galway utd gave us a roasting one year at home 3 or 4 to one and it was so cold my feet nearly froze. When I was working in Dublin City were beaten 6-2 by Derry City at the Brandywell, although I didn't go to that one. Next day on my desk at work was a big note with 6-2 written on it. I'm sure loads of you were at the St Pat's game where Mountfield got sacked. Is that our record home defeat? have we ever conceded five at home, I wonder? What about the highest
scoring draw we've had? I wonder who has scored in the most consecutive games for us. Did Colin P notch a few consecutives
for us? I'm sure Caulfield or morley have that honour though, surely?

strange how so few of the best wins have come in the last 4 or so years, when we've been so strong. ah well, here's hoping we can break one or two of those this season or next

Thanks Peadar! I was at two of those- Rovers and Dundalk defeats. Two terrible clubs to lose to. 7-0 or 8-1 against Dundalk
would do nicely at the time of writing as the journos say for a new record. Has anyone been at the games Peadar listed?
What about the highest score draw. Must be 3-3 I suppose. Or
the scorer in most consecutive games?

    Question 7-1

    Peadar,
Are you sure about the record league win, 7-1 against limerick? I was at Rathbane on Stephens day in either 92 or 93 , and we won 6-1. I dont remember a 7-1??

    I think it was .........

I think it was 6-1 in Sligo at few years back as well in the league .... and very nearly 7 or 8, Patsy hit the bar from 20 - 30 yards out, a rocket of a shot, it was just target pratice towards the end of the game. Cant remember the 7-1 though.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

I wasn't sure but I remembered that Santa had given me the eircom League Yearbook and that said 1-7 so it's probably wrong.

    Talking Dale United!!!!!

The only game from the list above i was definitely at was the Dale United one, not sure about Waterford cos maybe we beat then by same score in the league too?

Dublin based junior team Dale United were completely outclassed by a Gerry McCabe inspired City at Bishopstown. City scored 7 easing up. I remember McCabe passing a couple of defenders only to wait for them to catch up with him again

Game was over long before halftime with home fans cheering for the away team in sympathy

Yes the 7-1 away to Limerick at Rathbane did happen. Oddly enough Limerick scored first before getting their ass kicked. Those were the free scoring days under Damo when i think we averaged about 3 goals a game.

That Limerick match was the Sunday before the home game V Galatasaray on the following Wednesday afternoon. If only we could have swapped a few of those against Limerick for one against the Turks.

    If only, If only...........

There's a theory that goes that because the league has improved recently there are no more really freaky results...but then you only have to look at Galway beating Monaghan 8:0 and some of Rovers results recently to realise that the theory's rubbish...

You can also look at it this way - 3 of those scores are record DEFEATS so it can only be good we not getting beaten like that anymore - Also its going to be hard to beat the 7-1 & 7-0 league & fai cup wins.

A few years ago we were regularily trashing 3, 4 & 5 goals past teams at home in the league although Ollie getting aa player sent off a game kinda helped.

Presently i don't think we have the class to be outplaying teams for long spells anymore as we more a huff 'n puff team now. We the new 10 team Premier there shouldn't be any huge wins anymore either.

More likely because Morley was at Shels for a while and himself and Jonny C. have aged a bit now. 4 or 5 years ago would have been when they were in their prime.

And the theory is not rubbish.
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.

if memory serves in the record league win, 7-1 against limerick, city were losing one nil at the break. a seven goal second half would be something, wouldn't it? i remember some german team came back from 3 nil down at the half to beat some austrian team 5-3 in the uefa cup a few years ago too (possibly admira wacker against kaiserslautern). ah football.
