    Irish Womens Senior Team

Re-copying a tweet from journalist Marie Crowe that members of the women's senior team are to have a press conference tomorrow (Tuesday) regarding the conditions under which they have to represent Ireland at a senior international level. There have long been complaints from senior players that it actually costs them to play for Ireland - a shameful position if true.

It would easily be possible for the FAI to have a system of central contracts which would tie a number of players to playing on a full-time basis in Ireland. Hopefully, the press conference tomorrow will explain the true position in clear detail.

I like the timing of this - as Kim John Del goes forward looking for a place on the UEFA Executive this week.

I hope the men's team stand with them and they get all of what they require, and quickly.

Fantastic result tonight to get a point away to the Netherlands. Well done, in particular, to the home-based players - Amber, Karen and Leanne!

RTE announced yesterday that, sponsored by BEKO, they'll be showing all Ireland's women's competitive matches live for the next two years which is great news. The match against N. Ireland was very comfortable against a poor N.I. side who didn't trouble first-cap Amanda Budden in the Republic's goal. Most national clubs know by now that you can't allow Leanne Kiernan run off your shoulder or she'll leave you stone dead, but NI didn't seem to know and she notched two goals with Katie McCabe getting the other two. Tyler Toland, aged only 17, had an astonishing game for one so young as the holding midfielder and was also the subject of a gruesome tackle from NI's Montgomery when you could see Tyler's leg buckle from the impact. Fortunately, she was able to continue. Excellent 75 minutes also as the target player up front by Wexford's Rianna Jarrett. 4-0 to the Republic at the end.

0-0 at half-time. Great to see ex-Wexford Claire O'Riordan get her first start at right full. Rianna Jarrett is up front. One chance only in the first half with a Polish effort that Marie Hourihane may have got a touch to on its way to the cross-bar.

Bxxxxxcks. Rianna Jarrett going off injured and being replaced immediately. Fingers crossed it's only a bang on the ankle.

4-0 to Poland at the end. Ireland never really recovered after a shocking penalty award to Poland for the first goal. Second goal might have got a deflection. Thought Galway's Aislinn Meaney showed really well for what I presume is her first start with Denise O'Sullivan impressing as usual.

Just watched second half of Ireland v Wales on the Welsh website. Good win against a team which I think is ranked higher than Ireland with excellent header by Louise Quinn being the difference. Ireland were dominant in the second half but seemed to switch to five at the back after scoring and gave the Welsh the chance to come back into the game. Former Wexford player, Claire O'Riordan, played the full match and looked fine beside Louise Quinn with one really good tackle at the end. 1-0 to Ireland at full-time.

Claire Walsh of Peamount and Ireland has signed for Glasgow City. Very good player and will be missed by the Peas.

Surprised there was no activity here around the start of the world cup qualifiers. A decent performance in the opening game against Sweden and a very creditable 1-0 defeat. Currently 1-0 up away to Finland, a win would set the team up nicely for second in the group, it would be a great achievement after the really poor finish to the European qualifiers, that result in Ukraine will haunt them for a long time I'm sure. They do seem to be improving and in players like Denise O'Sullivan and Katie McCabe they have some real class.

Tyler Toland, the Republic of Ireland’s youngest ever debutant at 16, has signed for Blackburn Rovers. Now 21, Toland has previously been with Man City, Glasgow City, Glasgow Celtic and Levante.

Remarkable that local derby between Charleroi and Standard Liege (with Claire O'Riordan and Amber Barrett) on Friday, 15 December, was played behind closed doors on police advice. Standard won the game 2-0.

Seanfhear, it seems as if the Belgian police were afraid that the women's match might be used as a vehicle for supporters of the two clubs to have a go at each other.
