The nine qualifying groups for the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Italy and San Marino were decided by Thursday's draw in Nyon. A record 54 teams will be involved, with the first matches taking place in late March – nearly three months before the 2017 finals in Poland.
2019 Under-21 qualifying group stage draw
Group 1: Czech Republic*, Croatia, Greece, Moldova, Belarus, San Marino
Group 2: Spain*, Slovakia*, Iceland, Albania, Estonia, Northern Ireland
Group 3: Denmark*, Poland*, Finland, Georgia, Lithuania, Faroe Islands
Group 4: England*, Netherlands, Ukraine, Scotland, Latvia, Andorra
Group 5: Germany*, Israel, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Azerbaijan, Kosovo
Group 6: Sweden*, Belgium, Turkey, Hungary, Cyprus, Malta
Group 7: Serbia*, Austria, Russia, FYR Macedonia*, Armenia, Gibraltar
Group 8: Portugal*, Switzerland, Romania, Wales, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Liechtenstein
Group 9: France, Slovenia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg
• The nine group winners will qualify automatically for the finals.
• The four runners-up with the best records against the teams first, third, fourth and fifth in their group will go into the play-offs and be drawn into two ties to decide the last pair of qualifiers.
Only 11 qualify from 9 groups so we have to come 2nd in our group, hope it's we are top 4 of 9 2nd place teams and then playoff against another top 2nd place team. Good chance of finishing 2nd mind.

Finn Harps' Ethan Boyle called into U21 squad for friendly against the Amateur Squad: http://www.finnharps.com/fhfc/?p=4210
Galway United's Conor Melody called up. Gary Boylan & Regan Donelon from Sligo also in the squad.
Anyone got the full squad?
Ben Doherty, Josh Daniels and Ronan Curtis of Derry in the squad too.
Haven't seen a full panel anywhere yet.

Training Match
Republic of Ireland U21 Home-Based squad v Republic of Ireland Amateur International squad, AUL Complex (2.00pm)
Of that squad, I think only Poynton and Melody, and maybe Curtis given our lack of strikers, would be likely to make a squad with English players. Noone and Feely could as well, but I don't think either is likely to play much with their club. Which is a shame because I think guys playing senior football are better equipped to play u21 ball than academy lads.
Is there a reason Jamie McGrath and Sean Maguire were left out?

Surely Maguire's overage?
<EDIT>
can't find the 2019 regulations on UEFA's site. but the 2017 regulations are here - http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/...0_DOWNLOAD.pdf - and was open to players born on or after 1 January 1994, Maguire was born in May 1994, so more than likely overage for the 2019 tournament
Could a mod maybe merge this with the already-existing thread for under-21 squads?: http://foot.ie/threads/189904-Under-21-Squad-Thread/
I'd have posted this in that thread except for the fact it appears to be locked for some reason. Not sure why...
Anyway, here's Noel King's squad for Ireland's upcoming under-21 European Championships group 5 qualifier against Kosovo in Tallaght on Saturday the 25th of March (1PM kick-off): http://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/king-...sovo-qualifier

Should be able to make that game on Saturday week
Nice to see some Harps representation there through Boyle. I don't recall the last time we had a player called up to a full under-21 squad.

I can't understand why that match cannot be played in the evening, when there is no kids football on in Dublin.
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!

God depressingly shallow squad. Don't think o Grady has been involved before welcome and also nice to see Hale get a call up like his brother
