new thread for important anniversaries, today is 30 years since the Euro 88 qualifiers victory over Scotland in 1987.
Lineup: Bonner, Lawrenson, McCarthy, Moran, McGrath, Brady, Galvin, Houghton, Whelan, Aldridge, Stapleton(c)
John Byrne came on for Brady on 60 minutes
Any idea how that back four lined up ?
I know McGrath played at right back and made, I believe, wee Davy Cooper, look ordinary . The tv coverage also missed Lawrenson's goal initially as it did a replay of an earlier incident.
Yes, one of the most important goals in Irish history and we almost miss it. Such a pity that Lawrenson missed Euro 88 due to an injury. It must still hurt him not to have been there and he might have been the difference between us and a semi-final place. Class player.
p.s. Wonder what Charlton and the police inspector are talking about. Is Charlton being told to sit down ?

Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
15 years since Ireland beat Denmark 3-0 in a friendly - Harte (with a header!!), Keane and Morrison with the goals
Kiely (Colgan, 66); Kelly, Cunningham, Staunton, Harte; McAteer (Reid, 66), Holland, Kinsella (Healy, 64), Duff (Dunne, 85); Morrison, Keane (Connolly,77).
One of only 10 caps for Colgan. Didn't realise he got that many https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Colgan Could any of the Drogs supporters fill in the missing appearances for that club?

15 years ago to this
Lying in a hospital bed in Merlin Park with my 2nd of many knee surgeries. Rang the nurses bell when Mattie scored, got in trouble.
The most healing in an Irish goal award goes to Matty Holland. It was medicinal, it was more than a goal, it stopped the country from bleeding out
15 years since we beat Saudi Arabia 3-0 in Japan
22 years to the day since we lost 3-1 to Austria at home:
Hopefully, history will not be repeating itself today!
Yesterday was 29 years since Ray put the ball in the English net.
Adn 5 years since I imbibed a lot of vodka with some Croatians in Poznan. Well... that's what Bookface said anyway.
DID YOU NOTICE A SIGN OUTSIDE MY HOUSE...?
Five years on Saturday it seems - http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/18180105
Same as that, kind of, I ended up swapping jerseys with one of them. Mine was a brand new, swanky looking training top. His was a well worn unofficial away jersey, about two sizes too big for me and soaked in b.o. It seemed like the right thing to do at the time though.
