Still love how in the live broadcast the first cut after the goal was a close-up on a very unhappy Manuel Neuer. He really wasn't expecting the rocket that flew past him.

I was at a wedding in Slane Mill that day. Had to drag herself to a local up the hill to watch the game. She was less than pleased.

15 years since Brian Kerr's final game in charge.
A 0-0 draw against Switzerland that would have to improve to be described as "drab"

We could have planned for another hour and not scored. Switzerland only needed a draw, and barely left their own half for the entire game. I know Kerr was a conservative manager, but did we really need to keep four defenders on for the whole game? Taking off Robbie Keane and Clinton Morrison when we had to score was baffling

Gary Doherty and Stephen Elliot up front when we were chasing it was what turned my opinion that Kerr need to be replaced

It's got to be up there as the most consequential and memorable night supporting Ireland.

Getting chills even thinking about it now.

Never saw those goals before. The Grealish one in particular would have been in the Best Goals comp otherwise. Hughton's is a most un-Hughton goal, albeit that the keeper really should have done better. The second is a contender for our worst ever goal, and Stapleton's little dink is a nice finish.

I was just posting that. Jack Charlton would have loved some of those players at their peak !

What was the full team. We had some fine players on the 80’s ( even late 70’s ) Ok maybe not the entire Eleven or Squad.

That was a damn fine team and Don Givens got a good few goals for us as well down through the years.

Not that it is possible, but I wouldn’t give todays team a chance against that team !
