I can't believe that was played in December.
Playoffs felt so so alien at the time that I guess a game in December wasn't that out there as the weird thing to remember about that game.

DID YOU NOTICE A SIGN OUTSIDE MY HOUSE...?
longest 24 hrs of my life. ferry at 8am, trains to anfield, hardly landed a punch all match then return journey home arriving by ferry at 8 without a single wink of sleep the whole time.
however, by far the best pre match atmosphere i ever experienced. 30 mins of song after song from the irish fans on the kop
I realise they are bigger things going on today, but I'm still surprised there's no mention of the anniversary from the FAI
15 years today since Steve Staunton's first game in charge, a friendly against Sweden that saw the debuts of Joey O'Brien, Kevin Doyle, Wayne Henderson, and Stephen Ireland, as well as Liam Miller's first international goal

I was living in Perth, WA at the time and couldn't find a way to watch that game for love nor money. I remember getting my oul lad to text me updates. Couldn't believe the score and hoped it was the start of a new era.
I guess it was the start of a new era, just an awful one.

Wow, I'm no fan of VAR but I just watched both goals in that clip and I can't think of a stronger argument in favour of VAR than those.
I joined this forum in response to that game. I had a different username at the time. I made a couple of hundred posts under a different name. I went away for a while, couldn't remember my credentials, and re-registered as BacktoWalsall when it all started to go wrong for Stan.
It all looked so positive on opening night for him. It makes me wonder what might have happened if Bobby Robson hadn't taken ill.
