First anniversary of Robbie Brady's goal in Lille today. I spent a hot afternoon drinking crap beer with CraftyToePoke then and I'll be doing the same tonight. We're going to see Mark Lanegan at Koko in Camden. Isn't the internet great?

I think the FAI should keep that away kit forever.

Coincidentally, I came across this discussion on Twitter not too long ago. Hopefully that killianM2 guy gets it for his YouTube channel at some stage - https://www.youtube.com/user/killianm2

It's November 11 1987, and we're top of European Championship Group 7 after finishing our campaign with 3 straight wins. Despite that, we only lead Bulgaria on goal difference, before their final game at home to an already eliminated Scotland in fortress Sofia, where they haven't lost in 4 years. In Dublin, Jack Charlton is about to be let go as , as the football isn't attractive enough, unless Scotland win. Having done nothing of note in 85 minutes, the chances of a miracle are getting longer and longer.

    Then.

Life would never be the same again.

We actually led Bulgaria by a point and had an inferior goal difference.

15 years today since Brian Kerr's first game in charge, a 2-0 win over Scotland with Kilbane and Morrison scoring.
Can't find any videos of the game, even match reviews are hard to come by.
Here's how the BBC saw the game: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/foot...nd/2750033.stm

Fairly sure I listened to that one on the radio cos it wasn't on the telly. Seems unthinkable now. And surprised it was the case even then tbh.

Also, how the hell is that 15 years ago?

I definitely watched it on the telly, I was living in Beaumont at the time, so I'm pretty sure I was either in Beaumont House, or in the Goose pub in Whitehall.

The highlights were on the news, I remember, so there was definitely cameras there anyway!

It could well be that it was on Sky, and so not having Sky, I listened on the radio rather than go down the pub.

yeah, I think it might have been one of the first games that was only on Sky. IIRC the FAI signed the exclusive deal with Sky after the 2002 world cup, then there was uproar, and the government added all competitive internationals to the list of protected events that had to free to air. Since it was a friendly, it would have been exclusive to Sky. I definitely watched the previous friendly, a 0-0 draw with Greece that redefined dull, in the Goose.

I believe the IRFU are trying to take Six Nations games off that list of protected events to make more money from them.

I also had it in my head that the Scotland game wasn't televised.

    Kilbane's goal is here - https://youtu.be/PPo793NTGz8?t=2m5s

Came across this fairly detailed match tracker from The Guardian too - https://www.theguardian.com/football...yminute.sport2

There were surely one or two from here who made the short trip (looking at you Paul O'Shea!)?

Can't find any video of Morrison's goal so here's a picture of him celebrating instead!
