    Presidents Cup- Season opener

Sunday 11th Feb 2018 in Oriel Park at 2pm.

Dundalk close out their pre-season on Wednesday with a match v Brentford b.
We currently have a squad of 20.Hoban is currently hobbled and rumour is he will miss this game.Mountney also and Stephen O'Donnell too.
Expecting a big crowd in attendance at Oriel for the match(Many Cork coming?)

Haven't really been following Cork in preseason,so would be interested to hear the latest from there?

Can't imagine many travelling for Presidents Cup, but the time will allow a few of our fans in Dublin to make it. Early start on a Sunday from Cork though.

Our pre season has been a bit all over the place. Few games called off because of pitches etc. We've played UCC, Cobh and waterford u19s in the MSC. Hard to say much on any of the games really. We've a game today but not a proper friendly i don't think. Then we're off to Manchester and I think they're hoping for a game there. Presidents cup will be the first proper challenge I'd say.

Buckley and Tobi have gotten injured. McNamee looks good. That's about it really.

Think I saw a bus advertised travelling from Cork, early enough start for a 2pm ko. I'd say Cork will fill the 150 or so seats that are reserved in the front of the stand. I certainly wouldn't be travelling if it was vice versa.

Will be interesting to see how the two Derry lads settle in, I wouldn't have minded Barry, stylish type of defender. Should be a decent challenge for both sides, and has been the same for this match since the event was re-launched some years back.

The attendance will be interesting also, essentially a friendly but season proper pre opener, so maybe 2k +
#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), only Irish club to win a game / points in Europa League Group Stage (2016).

It'l be interesting to see who starts for us. There's a lot of possible combinations right now. Barry or Kane at the back. Horgan or Beattie right back. Attacking midfield when Buckley is back etc. Interesting times ahead!

The previous President's Cup referred to the President of the LFA, and was in theory played between the top Leinster clubs of the previous season. Introduced in 1930 as a fundraiser for the new LFA headquarters in Parnell Square, it has not been played since 2002/3. There's a detailed history with stats here.

The current President's Cup was presented by Michael D Higgins in 2014, is a completely new trophy and is specifically for the Champions v Cupwinners (or runners-up/losers in case of doubles).

    President's Cup history to date:
2014 St Patricks Athletic 1-0 Sligo Rovers
2015 Dundalk 2-1 St Patricks Athletic
    2016 Cork City 1-0 Dundalk
    2017 Cork City 3-0 Dundalk

The actual name on the current trophy is Corn Uachtaran na hEireann.

Is it being streamed anywhere? I thought the FAI would be streaming it on Youtube but it seems not

2-2 McNamee. We're a different team this half apparently.

They did it in 2016 but now I think of it, I don't remember seeing it last year. Would have been worth watching as any game between Dundalk and Cork is.
