The lack of play-offs this year is an absolute disaster. We're 1/20 to win the division now which makes almost every game from now til October meaningless. Teams only trying to secure as high a finish as possible but there's no real reward or punishment so attendances will be desperate.

I expect that Athlone in its current guise won't get a licence next year. Whatever chance they had after the public scandal, the current regime burned their bridges with their public statements against the FAI. They'll turn a blind eye to pretty much anything else (as we've seen) but that's going too far. If the fans group can get themselves organised they'll be encouraged to apply this time. Worst case scenario they're playing as Athlone FC for a year until they "buy back" their history a la Cork/Galway etc.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Where did you get this from TT, I didn't hear it announced / reported from the usual sources, DFC going with '3,000', one of the few they didn't report an exact figure, what you posted seems spot on, Rovers prob have 400, not bad for a Sunday evening I suppose.

Yep...only one I'd have expected to go close to that was first day of season against Cork but monsoon weather conditions and scheduling of other events put pay to that

Theres a chance we could win the league against Harps so potential for a large traveling crowd in a few weeks for that game to make up for having the game moved but probably not as large as yesterdays crowd.

Some good news on RTE regarding attendances. Makes a change from the Bray Blunderers story these last few days.

The Football Association of Ireland has revealed that SSE Airtricity League attendances have grown by an impressive 48.8% since last season.
Hello, hello? What's going on? What's all this shouting, we'll have no trouble here!

    48.8%?

    Surely that's nonsense?

Judging by the more reliable figures here - and kudos to Nigel for compiling them - I'd say more than a quizzical surely! It has to be a deflection away from Bray to make the FAI look good - we all know that JD has singlehandedly knocked on every door in the country to coax people into going to games. Granted, some rolly eyes might have helped my first post! Take two now instead and lie down until all this Bray stuff passes.

Could be a clever use of figures. You could take the total attendance season to date at a certain favourable point and then say if it was to continue at that rate or average till end of season, you'd see a near 50% increase. Knowing the FAI, they did it after game week one.

    Bray v Harps - 563.

Easily around 80 of that Harps fans. A good crowd on the 'away' side of the ground, although quite a number of home fans out there too.
