real player problem - rte audio links - help!

I'm having a problem with playing audio files on the rte radio site
I can play their live streaming with no apparent problem but I cant connect to any of their archived segments eg here:

    http://www.rte.ie/news/morningireland.html

anyone any idea what stopping me acces these clips????!!!!! its driving me mad at present as i need to access it for something

    im using real player 10.5

if i can access their live stream surely the archive stuff shouldnt be an issue???

    any help out there?

    Yours Desperately

Are you using an ad blocker? If so, try turning it off.

no its not an adblocker issue - im not using one

it seems to be .rm files
    example error connection message
    rtsp://streaming2.rte.ie/2005/0202/02022005rte-morningireland.rm

is there any firewall/proxy issue which would allow me access to their live stream on this address: rtsp://streaming.rte.ie/encoder/radio1.ra

yet prevent me from connecting to the other stream server for DOT RM clips????

I used to have the same problem with the archived stuff. Instead of clicking the link, copy and paste the address straight into Real Player and see if it works. That sorted it for me.

ok - its getting a bit wierd - the formats are in dot smil - so the link itself is of no value

I got the source of the dot smil file and changed the streaming server name from rtsp://streaming2.rte.ie/2005/0204/04022005rte-morningireland.rm to
    rtsp://streaming.rte.ie/2005/0204/04022005rte-morningireland.rm

taking out the "2" as it were (because I already knew the rtsp://streaming.rte.ie address worked for the live stream on that site - so I wanted to try it for their archive stuff just for the craic)

saved the text file as a smil file on my desktop and hey presto that opens and I can hear the clip......the question I have is where is the rtsp://streaming2.rte.ie being blocked while rtsp://streaming.rte.ie seems clear??????

so my problem seams to be just with streams from this address: rtsp://streaming2.rte.ie
    ???????

Firewall - dont think it has any restriction -at least not address specific like that
Web Proxy????? (i know little about this - anyone know if thats the prob?can there be address specific blocks)

this is really bugging me as I cant do this every time I want a clip

Odd that, who's your ISP, or are you on a business/college LAN? Can you ping streaming2.rte.ie? How does it compare to the other one?

Have you tried bypassing the web proxy? Just set to local machine 127.0.0.1 although some companies don't allow to bypass...

    You got a sample link?

business Lan - behind all the usual firewall and a web proxy
I cant ping an address from a pc on the lan behind that set up. But on the web proxy machine i ping streaming2.rte.ie and got a response (!) did likewise for streaming.rte.ie and it was request timed out (?) (I expected the reverse!)

pete (dont think I can by pass)
