    Strange Negativity

I'm really surprised by the undercurrent of negativity (at times flowing over) around the forum in the last few weeks. I'm surprised because I am comparing the situation the club finds itself in this pre-season compared to almost every pre-season in the last decade or more.

Granted things are not perfect. Work needs to be done to the ground (imagine! we have a ground!). Some players are obviously not happy - but others have signed - we have two proven quality players signed and a few promising junior ones. Some of last seasons players have not decided to stay yet (i.e. put pen to paper) and we seem to have lost Jal - but hardly devastating losses.

Limerick can expect to be competitive this year. The finances are on a great footing it seems. We have out own ground and the players are turning up for pre-season training confident that the club will actaully have a season (and a few to follow) unlike last year. What type of pre-season training was doen last year when we had no squad two weeks before the start of the season. Friendlies lined up against two good premier sides.

I understand that being glad that the new consortium is in place and the previous regime overthrown does not mean we kow-tow and avoid criticism where warranted - but lets be fair about it. We are in the papers for good reasons. We are able to prepare properly for the season. Lets look on the bright side for jaysus sake.

I agree and I'm sure everyone does. But when things aren't perfect, there's no harm in pointing out what could be better. For example I think that Mike Kerley shouldn't have been sacked. I don't think we should have signed a new keeper, when Jimmy is one of the top keepers in the division, when there are so many other postions need stengthening. But complaining is part and parcel of football. Arsenal fans complain. Man U fans complain. Liverpool fans complain. Oxford fans complain. There's not a (normal) Limerick fan who would swap our position now for any in recent years, except maybe the last half of the play-off season, but there's always room for improvement.

Well said Exile the general trend of negativity is baffling. I'm just still trying to take in the faiytale saving of our club. Six months ago i would have put money on that there would be no such thing as Limerick Football Club on the 7th of February 2005

fans complain thats the joy of being a fan , its all well and good not putting down your team but you also need not to bury your head either and point out things that could be done better ,

now the ground is taking shape the team is being put together and they are training , so its a lot better than previous seasons but it could be even better again next year we could be getting ready for prem games .

Does anyone know the details of the friendly with Cork City?
Am I right in saying it's to be played at Hogan Park (or whatever name the ground is going to be called this season)?

Well I think everybody knows that we'll be more successful on the field this season and that off the field things are already looking better than they have for quite some time.

I think the negativity stems from attitudes and methods rather than any actual results (promised or already delivered).
The ball is round and has many surprises.

I'm not surprised about it at all, given the cloak and dagger methods currently being used by our new owners

I think that's unfair. I don't see anything cloak and dagger - certainly not sinister. These guys are running the club - like any other club in the world they do not tell their fans everything e.g. what talks are going on with players etc. If you want to sign somebody or keep somebody for that matter discretion is the best course. I can't think of any case where they have lied to fans. Unlike the previous administration according to some SC board members. We haven't had more as much press coverage in decades.

I don't know any of the current crop of owners (except JoeSoap through this board) but I have no reason to think they are being deceptive or underhand in what they are doing.

I don't think thats necessarily an unfair comment to make. The new consortium have at times been sneaky and when they have done so have been very smug and condescending about it. I don't wish to go into detail when Big Brother is watching. However it's great that they have invested money into the club, no one can argue with that but so far I don't like the methods that they have adapted such as trying to manipulate fans opinions on this forum long before they took the club over. I'm still waiting for the meeting between the new consortium and the fans to take place as was promised by Drew a while ago so we can get everything out in the open, I know I have plenty of questions to ask and would have a lot more respect if they had no problem answering them.
Limerick 37, its so shiny and new we dare not take the cover off.

Exactly. But some incidents include trying to turn the fans against Mike at Limerick games last year by our esteemed new owner, by criticising his management skills and his coaching methods, so to soften the blow when Mike was hounded, yes hounded, out of a club he had done a hell of a lot for in the past two years. Not to mention, and this is what I take from it, trying to lessen Mike's achievements of the last two years by coming on this board and trying to put the man down. But as Nempton said......
