I haven't seen it on screen and at the match it just looked like a bunch of guys jostling around so I wasn't focused on any particular person. I'm not sating it wasn't an eye gouge but the original post should have an accompanying video rather than a photo as evidence.

You're some man for the photos! I bet there are at least 20 stills in the game of tackles, jostling etc. that look awful. For instance I would bet a still of the elbow on Shields looks pretty bad but I doubt you'll be sticking that up to provide some balance.
I didn't see too many players complaining about the incident during or after the game and you would think something like that would be hot topic.
I'll say it again, just try and enjoy your win....
I'm not gonna get into an argument on this and photos don't tell the whole story, but there's never a reason for a players fingers to be anywhere near another players face.
Did he put up his hand or was he going to hold Beattie back and the guy holding Finn back unintentionally force his hand up while trying to push Beattie back too? One photo does not tell the story in this case. It's just speculation that Shields deliberately caught him in the face.
That is possible but it seems like a stretch. Shields is a good player but don't fall into the trap of defending someone because they wear your colours. You see this all the time with Man United and Liverpool fans. It doesn't matter to them what the action is but what team the player is from.
Apparently theres another photo of a City player doing the same. I haven't seen it but if there is I won't defend him either. I won't necessary vilify either player but again there is no excuse for having your fingers near someones eyes.
Is Beattie out of hospital yet after that one? I think this is a perfect illustration of the perils of taking a still and drawing a story from it. If Shields' one looks bad you could argue the Cork lad on Finn looks worse. Sure he's clearly levering against Finn's face to get better purchase on the gouge!
While we're at it here's Dane Massey buggering poor Karl Sheppard. Gotta be a yellow card at least

I think Beattie could shove his eye back in place properly, focus it a bit and get on with the game.
These Cork lads/lassies on here whine when they lose and whine just as much when they win and all done with a Cork accent.
Even in victory it seems some Corkonians insist on being the victims.
The truth is that Rodgers & his "team" missed several incidents involving players from both teams during the match.
I look forward to the comments of some of you when you get Rodgers at some of your games next season.
I'm sure I'll be able to refer back to this thread at that time
Enjoy the break.
Believe it or not Rogers has reffed all our teams, often badly.
Of course he has Charlie but my initial post was that he had a very poor game.
I didn't say he was poor for City or Dundalk, I simply said he was poor.
We have seen photos of incidents involving players from both sides which he & his "assistants" missed & I'm sure everyone saw the incident between Bennett & Kilduff.
I know its only a football forum but people often seem to want to read into posts something which isn't there.
Maybe its the tint of the glasses that some wear
