no europa for dunne. rapid wien(who finished below red bull salzburg) knocking aston villa out.
Dont think this is a done deal....
Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill has revealed a deal for Manchester City defender Richard Dunne is some way off.
A Villa statement confirmed a fee had been agreed for the player but O'Neill was cautious over the deal.
He said: "We are looking to try and reinforce the team between now and the deadline and bring people in with experience. Is the Dunne deal close? No, nothing is remotely close at all."

I wonder if defeat in Europe was/is a factor?
Dunne back on the way to Portsmouth?
"back" on his way? You're the only person I've heard link Dunne to Portsmouth in the last couple of days...
Its only something like 40K per a win in the Europa cup, however, Villa still would have made nice money on TV and match day receipts so it will cost them a couple of million.
This will be a good move for Dunne if it goes through.
One thing I will say is I think Martin O'Neill is one of the most overrated managers in football.
He is a decent manager (not saying he's crap) but he is not a top manager and Villa will be the biggest club he will ever manage.
Hard to criticize O'Neill's management career, whether you love him or hate him.
The fact that Villa could even compete for a top four spot last year is a testament to his ability as a manager.
The stumbling block was/is Dunne's final payment from Man City according to the Guardian. It will go through but unlikely he gets to play against Fulham. Warnock went for 8 million?! Decent left back I grant you but he isn't worth that much.
MON Villa side in 07/08 got 60 points which was their highest points tally since 96/97 season. Last year they got 62 points and would have broken into the top 4 but for a poor end to the season which wasn't helped by having such a small squad. O'Leary had a good first season with Villa but they were disappointing after that. I'm pretty sure in his final season they were close to the relegation pack and he left soon after. O'Neill has done a solid job at Villa & was excellent at both Celtic and Leicester.
I would watch out for a late, late move from "arry" here. Nobody is going to pay Dunne what he is reported to be on at City. And for some reason he has yet to agree to sign for Villa. Which usually means another club is involved. Redknapp is a big admirer of Dunne.
