There you go!!!! “clattered in to Given” ……..Given clattered in to Dunner, the way I saw it! It was Dunner’s ball and Shay didn’t call, he even apologised to Dunner!!
Shay made 1 great save, 1 good one and was solid otherwise.
Dunner made 1 error (debatable as he was catching up for Bridge) but was very solid otherwise.
It is quite well within Sam's post match brief to point out that the opposition goalkeeper made a string of top saves.
Most everyone else, apart from you, who saw the game, think Given had a typically excellent game.
fair enough so - I thought Given was OK and I didn't Dunne was that good.
Generally I'm a big fan of both players.
Its goes back to people getting a little bit precious about Irish players. When the British media criticises an Irish player some people tend to get upset. When the same British media praise an Irish player they have no problem using the media as a reference point! We can't have it both ways!!
I don't believe the English media are in anyway unfavourable against Irish players - no more so that other nationalities.
No more so then other nationalities maybe but certainly more so then english players. You only have to look at the marks england internationals get in match reports to see it. The Sun fantasy football dream team is farcical because of it, you'd rarely see Lampard or Gerrard get below an 8 for example regardless of how good or bad they've played....

What support have you got for claiming "all countries do that" ? I don't see that in any Irish papers. Drum 69 is absolutely correct re. Lampard Terry etc.

Support? I don't see Irish papers giving Robbie Keans a 9/10 when he has a 6/10 performance.
You’re suggesting that an Irish sports journalist cannot be subjective in analysis of Irish sports stars. There is a difference between wishing well and blind praise.
Drum 69 is absolutely right that the majority of English papers rate the likes of Lampard, Terry etc. above what their performances indicate and there is NO basis for saying “well everyone does that” !!!
Having said that, most “Irish papers” are English.

You only have to look at Hansen and (to a lesser extent) Lineker highlighting Michael Owen's performance last night to see how sickeningly biased the English media are with regard to their own players. They were highlighting his positioning and his running off the ball in a fairly positive manner conveniently forgetting to mention the fact that he has been sh*t for United thus far and had been rubbish for Newcastle for years beforehand. If Owen was a foreign striker who just signed for united they would be slating his performance.
For my Sun fantasy league team I always buy a sh*load of English international players not because I necessarily think they are any good but because I know they will at least get a 7 out of 10 every week in the ratings even if they have a dire game and receive the bonus points.

There used to be a thread “Robbie Keane v Michael Owen” possibly over on Soccer Central. I know which one I’d rather have! (and it’s not the one who can’t play poker either!). Even McGeady would give you way more value than Owen.
It is not “English bashing” just to suggest the English media are biased towards English players, they are ABSOLUTELY. Even to the extent of the phrase “cheating foreigners”. The worst dive I ever saw was Gerrard v Hungary (I think ) and it was a friendly!, you don’t need to be reminded that Beckham was English and Mancurian Diving Champion long before Ronaldo ever played for MUFC…but it’s much easier to point to Johnny foreigner.
