    Thats a good post Stutts.
I was talking to some Irish yesterday on vacation here about the team....its kind of like grasping at straws sometimes. We all know what we need but a lot of times we dont have it. I dont know if there is any answer at times. Its frustrating.

Absolutely, which goes back to the realization that a lot of us had after the Euros that there is something very wrong with the way we develop/farm players as a nation and how we consider it acceptable to allow the English system (which has the same deficiencies) dictate their "philosophy" on how Irish players will be coached and how they will play.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Very true. It's about our lack oc coaching to our youngsters in the first place.

As far as Dunne goes, I won't be too bothered if he leaves. Top marks to him for his contribution over the years - he gave his heart and soul for the cause. Top lad in that respect. But as one article on bleacher report pointed out the other day, he is nowhere near the level of the top center backs in the game - Pique, Ramos, Vermealen. And we need to start blooding our defenders as players who can play a bit rather than just hoofing the ball away at every opportunity.
Can Duffy and Clark pass the ball better than Dunne and O'Shea? Of course they can't. I recognise the need to blood young players and that O'Shea in particular has been poor for us, but our defenders can't build from the back when the midfield is set up to shun possession and other teams find it so easy to force us into a long ball game. Clark and Duffy could come into the team, but they would do exactly what Dunne and O'Shea have been doing except with an added propensity for making mistakes and errors of judgement.

Regardless of any retirement risk, it looks as if Richard Dunne is struggling to be fit for the Kazakhstan game after picking up a groin injury.

This is additionally concerning when The Doc has just posted elsewhere that St. Ledger was injured tonight as well. Hopefully Ciaran Clark might be getting a call up for the Serbia game.

Communication is still terrible under Trap. Dunne's club are annoyed and legend Shay Given gets sent a text to say he's being rested. Seriously, who uses text messages as a management tool? Especially at this level? They're so informal and so open to misinterpretation. Surely grown men who have given so much to us (3 off-days in Poland beside the point) deserve better. Why not a phone call, with interpreter on hand if needs be? Why not longer e-mails, with a "please confirm receipt within 24h" or something to make sure the e-mail has been received?

I think something is up in the camp and I'd love to know what it is. If Trap has lost some of our players due to sheer unprofessionalism, I'd like him gone.

Keeping club's up to date with injuries isn't the managers job. Don't know how common texting is, but I suspect it's more common than we'd think - albeit managers using it probably speak the same language as the person they're sending it to...

People end long term relationships by text. Compared to telling someone they are being rested for a game, the latter is in the halfpenny place.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Communication has been disastrous under Trap. I blame the FAI for this in the main. Trap can send texts all he wants but as long as they're only ancilalry tools over and above formal confirmation. I agree with 2011 except that I think communication shouldn't be his job except where personal explanations are required.

While Trap's methods of communication baffle me, it's hard to see how Ireland are at fault for Dunne picking up an injury playing for his club 6 weeks after last playing for his country.

Villa seem to be stirring things up here. If there's anyone in the FAI who has external credibility it's Dr. Alan Byrne, after how he diagnosed Shane Duffy's injury and saved his life.

surprised nobody has pointed out that Dunne played at least two preseason games for Villa, before this was diagnosed

    <EDIT>
Actually, it was just two games he played in:
    VS Philadelphia Union: http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetai...853449,00.html
    VS Chicago Fire: http://www.avfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetai...856677,00.html

I presume the players are the ones who prefer text messaging. I really doubt septuagenarian Italians are that enthused by it. My dad's in his 60s, and can receive texts for work, but if he wants to reply, he has to hand the phone to someone else. Meanwhile, most people I know in their 20s are happy to text while simultaneously holding a conversation.

Yes. Are you the first to only notice what, could be, going on here?

Its funny how people are finally realising Traps mis-communication and possible general feeling of something wrong in the camp.

it's not unreasonable to assume that Trapattoni communicates with the rest of the squad via text, and none of them have reported any problems with it

Is this just another outbreak of mindless gossip on the board.
The only mention Trap gets in that IT article is that he has made it abundantly clear he wants Dunne to stick around.
If Dunne had a medical issue then it's the medics who take decisions and communicate with club medics.

I hear Trap is very up to date with modern technology, and will often sent out a
quick "u r drpd" when a player is not required

I suspect players would rather a text than a verbal message anyway.

A text will do for 80% of the squad. No need for a call to the likes of Whelan.

However a telephone call is essential for those you want to keep on board like Dunne & Given. A call should also be made to those where there have been misunderstandings.

    Pigeon is OK for McShane.
