I agree that his amount of sending offs is down to the way the Man City defense is exposed.

There are so many times during a game when it's 3 attackers vs 3 man city defenders, or 2 on 2.

That situation always favours the attackers, and Dunne is not the kind of player to let a player past him.

With Trapattoni's defensive system, these sort of situations are a lot more rare.

This means we won't necessarily create as many opportunities as Man City, but we won't allow near the amount of counter-attacks they do, thus allowing Dunne to be more comfortable with his duties.

His sending off on Thurs was down to his own recklessness and nothing to do with covering for a poorly balanced midfield. Im not saying that has not been a factor to his bookings/sending offs over the course of the season but that is not the full story.

The Sun, that bastion of credibility, is linking Dunne with a move to Sunderland.

No doubt Sunderland would want him (assuming they stay up), but would Dunne leave?

If there's any way he can stick with City, he should try, as with a few more big signings and a smartening up of tactics/formation on Hughes part, the blue side of Manchester could find themselves fighting for a Champions League spot in a year or two.

The number being thrown around is a paltry 4 million pounds.

Sunderland are a club going no where since Keane left. If they are not relegated this season then they will next year unless they change manager and a host of players. Dunne should stay at City if he can. He hasn't been playing well recently but I think thats down to his defensive partners also...

sure even vidic has had 3 reds for utd this season and he's favourite for POTY. man city are all over the place and central defenders are always the ones most likely to suffer in such situations. dunne has been immense for us and thats all that really matters

Are you Pat Dolan? More Keano crap!!! We're 4 places better off since he left. The story is complete load of non-sense. Sbairga won't be manager in the summer. FACT. So why is he signing players? It would be a great move for Dunne as we are heading in the right direction under Short and Quinn. Despite what the Keano loving media say.

Eh....Quinn came out and said Sbragia will be the manager next season...FACT.

And despite the fact that chairmen say this sort of stuff all the time, I know that Quinn isn't that sort of guy- he means what he says.

If Sbragia isn't manager of Sunderland next season, it will be his choice, not the club's.

It's hard to say what direction Sunderland are going- Drumaville are only minor players now that the Irish economy has collapsed, and Short, while playing a key financial role, doesn't have the same ambitions or commitment to providing funds that Drumaville had pre-recession.

I feel that they can kick on to be a solid mid-table club if the right moves are made and they get a bit of fortune, but the fact that nobody (good) would sign for them when they were throwing money around means that whoever is managing them will have their work cut out attracting players let alone affording them.

The dogs in the street know he won't be the manager next season. Quinn said it was only a half way house option and will be viewed in the summer.

As for Dunne, he is just a good Premier League player. This talk of Arsenal or Man U should sign him is a joke.

If the rumours are true and Sven Goran Eriksson will be in charge at the SoL next season this story mind be true. But you can't believe everything you read.

Hughes doesn't rate Dunne and has money to burn. Dickie will be one of many Citeh players shown the door. Sure, wouldn't it be better for him to be first team football at Sunderland than warming the bench at Eastlands next season?

Arsenal regularly get bullied at CB. Last night, last weekend...

He's a good player that'd suit Arsenal's financial constraints at the �4m mentioned (looks cheap though) and would add steel where it's needed. Just my opinion.

If Hughes didn't rate Dunne, he would have brought in someone during the transfer window to replace him.
He didn't rate Garrido or Ball, so he brought in Bridge
He didn't rate Jo/Bojinov/Sturridge/etc up front so he brought in Bellamy
He didn't think Hart was up to it, so he brought in Given

He's dropped Richards, Hamann and Vassell amongst others, yet has stuck with Dunne at centre half, despite scoring two OG's and being sent off three times this season. He's started every game he's been inolved in (41 out of 51 total), only Ireland and Robinho have started more in the City squad.

I think you answered your own question there. If City want to break into the Champions League then the likes of Duune,Vassell, Hamman and Ball. They are good players but not CL players. Hughes has been trying to get a centre half in but hasn't got one yet.

Hasn't Richard Dunne won the Man City player of the year for the last 4 years. Didnt hughes himself talk Dunne into staying at City, after the player expressed a desire to leave.

Dunne is of high enough quality to play in the champions league, although city need another Centre Back I dont see Dunne leaving. The guy has played consistantly well for 4 years and is having a bad season in a team that is all over the place.

If Hughes stays at City, then Dunne will stay and If Hughes leaves City then any new manager will proabably keep Dunne.

The only centre half I can remember City being linked to is Cannavaro, and there's no way Hughes is going to sign him

How many places are you better off than finishing position last season? I'm a Keane fan, but I'm not sure about his signings...all I'm saying is that Sunderland are a club going nowhere but downwards unless they get a host of new players...and richard Dunne would be off his head to go there unless there are serious changes

I think people are being harsh on Dunne. He has made mistakes this season but we mustn't forget trhe fact that he is babysitting the likes of Onuha and Richards...in fact Bridge has been a big disappointment also. I'm not saying none of it is his own fault but the guys playing there with him are poor

Given has gone from the fat into the frying pan with regards to the defence in front of him....

A lot of Honey Monster's mistakes are out on the right wing covering for Richards etc. but still, at his level he should be looking before he leaps in a lot of instances.

Is wanting to sign Dunne not a sign of moving in the right direction? By looking to appoint a top class manager with premier experience i.e Sven, Curbs or Houllier looking to better ourselves? It'll take a good year for the new man to clean up the mess Keane left behind in which in all fairness Sbriga has done to a certain point. Ricky's main task was to keep us up. We're no better than last year and thats down to Keane and Quinn's poor decesion making.

It's funny how in England people believe Sunderland can go places if we can stay up but it's the opposite over cause the great keano bottled it and ran away. Again!!

I just think Hughes looks at Dunne more as a liabilty than an asset. Maybe it's not to Hughes but the board to sell Dunne. Maybe Hughes is a bad judge of a player. He does want Samba.

I agree Ericson, curbishly or Houllier would indicate a step in the right direction, as would signing Dunne...but at the moment that's hearsay.
