I don't think it's that controversial of a statement, especially if we look at both players as they are right now.

Would you ever see Redknapp doing a straight swap deal with United for Owen? Never in a million years.

At his peak, I think most sensible people would have picked Owen, but he is well beyond that stage (still a decent finisher and he will score over 10 this year).

Ultimately, even though they're both strikers, they play completely different roles and have different skill-sets.

Better to compare Owen to Defoe, or Keane to Gerrard.

The English media treat their players the same way we treat ours ie they look at them through rose-tinted specs. It's hardly an English phenomenon.

As for diving, it's pretty clear that there's more of a "culture" of diving in countries such as Italy where it's even encouraged. I don't think it's a ridiculous thing to suggest that the influx of foreign players into the English game might have had some influence. That's not to say English players don't dive and are not responsible for their own actions.

I would prefer Robbie Keane to Michael Owen, no question.

    100% correct.

There's actually a piece on YouTube titled something like "Steven Gerrard Hypocrite" quoting Gerrard as saying that foreigners are bringing a diving culture to England and then showing a load of Gerrad's dives. Inexplicably, the Hungary dive was left out. Even the pundits were embarrassed.

Any powerful nation(maby not Germany who think all their new teams are terrible) think their players are best. Its no coincidence that we say it about England which happen to be the country that Ireland gets its media from.
If history had been altered and we were speaking French, we would be saying the same thing about Les Bleus.

I remember that match by the way, after Ian Wright said 'well THEY do it so we should do''

i see City have agreed a fee for Lescott, will this mean the end of Dunne or is he still captain?(better chance he'll hold position if still captain)

Hard to know. They'll have splashed out over £40 million of 2 centre backs, yet as anyone knows, you need more than two CBs over the course of a season. Might be no harm for Dunne to have to up his game to stay in the team.

Lescott will have to wait for a chance if Dunne stays as no manager is going to alter an on form defence. Either that or Dunne will be sold.

He's still captain but if were to believe what we saw in pre-season he will be replaced by one Stephen Ireland if he leaves!

Still captain, was better than Toure in yesterday's game, according to some reports.

Think it was Matt Le Tissier that was watching the City game for Soccer Saturday at the weekend and he made a point at one stage of saying that Dunne was outstanding in the game. Player of the year 4 seasons running at City and then one semi ok season and they want to dump him, football is incredible sometimes.Lescott has never put in a performance in his career like the one Richard Dunne did in Bulgaria or pretty much for all of the World Cup campaign,I dont care how much he costs Id have Dunne ahead of him any time. Its not that long ago that Lescott was being used by Everton as a left back because he wasnt able to break up the center half partnership at Everton, I wouldnt be totally surprised if that happened again at City because for me Wayne Bridge isnt a top class defender
    Its really not that complicated!!!

Think Lescott is totally over-rated. However he is a left sided centre half of which there is a shortage. I think Dunne will do well if he goes to Villa or Everton.

Dunne won't play again for Manchester City. I'd like to see him go to Everton or Aston Villa. I think he might end up at Portsmouth, the poor guy.

I think Spurs would have been the ideal move for him but I can't see him going to Portsmouth. O'Neill and Moyes will fight it out for him.

Yes, it was LeTissier. Still I fear that Dunne will be either let go or left on the bench.

Man City fans need to get behind him like MUFC "fans" did with Tevez (even though it had no effect - before some smart rs makes that point)

Spurs already have King, Woodgate, Dawson and Bassong plus Corluka can play there... I doubt that's an option at this point unfortunately.
I pity the fool!.... But suggest ways that he might improve himself.

King can't play two games in a row, and Woodgate seems to be perpetually injured as well. Except for suspensions, Dunne's barely missed a game in 4 years

You'd be crazy to think Hughes is going to drop one of their centre halves who have yet to concede a goal in 2 games. He may be sold but he certainly won't be on the bench for their game on Sunday (carling cup is a different matter).
