Are you joking?
Even if true, There's an enormous difference between paying one player a huge salary (highest in the league) and having a huge squad of quality players all on high salaries. Most top clubs could splash out on one or two. The difference is going to be in depth. Currently, dundalk could probably field 2 teams that would finish top 4/5.
He hardly has a reputation for setting a high bar for cerebral or incisive commentary, but his audience here are Shamrock Rovers supporters.
1) McEleney becomes available and Bradley says he wants him
He is a top player. He showed that before he went and he is a player I have always admired.
“He is someone who would fit the bill for us.
“All we can do is throw our hat in the ring and see what happens. We have done that but it’s up to Patrick.”
2) McEleney rejects Bradley’s offer and opts to return to Dundalk
“He’s a top player but we can’t compete financially.
3) Bradley throws in a red herring to deflect attention from Rovers not being able to compete
“I think we need to be very careful as a league.
“We talk about wanting respect and demanding fees for players but if you let *players walk out the door for nothing and buy them back, it’s a very strange scenario to get yourself into.
Transfer Fee or Signing-on fee - Is there a difference?
The distinction between a transfer fee, training compensation, a signing-on fee, or simply the size of a players wage is largely irrelevant as it is the overall investment by a club into a player that is important.
Bradley appears to forget that there was a time recently when Rovers seemed to only sign players who had previously played for them.
Who is the foolish one?
Could it be that the suggestion that Dundak re-signing McEleney will cause League of Ireland clubs to look foolish to English club is….eh foolish?
Ah come off it. You are signing top quality players who are wanted by other clubs. McEleney, Kelly and Watts if it happens are all wanted by other clubs. They are not signing on for anything less than 'high salaries'. It's ridiculous to try to claim otherwise.
Likewise, you've been tying key squad members up on long term contracts (which is very sensible and an important step). Again, these players are not signing for small money.
I'm sure there are some of your players, who are with you from earlier times, on lower money, but the reality is from now on players signing for you know you have money. That drives up the price. Especially when you're almost exclusively signing players wanted by other clubs.
I don't know what Dundalk players are being paid, but I know the ones who you beat the competition to sign are very likely on high wages. And the number of those are going to increase.
I also don't know what our players are being paid. I do know the ones we had competition for are likely on high salaries, Sadlier, Shep and McNamee probably being the stand out ones. The main reason I think our average is lower, is that most of our players are either from Cork, McCarthy and McLoughlin would be on tiny money, Mults and Buckley there was never much competition for them to move on, Benno, Delaney, Morrisey and Cummins are obviously on bigger money but the ability to come home played a big part, or our players weren't in huge demand when we signed them initially (Beattie, McCormack, Griffin, Horgan). Seanis first contract would be another example of that. His second contract an example of how the competition pushes the price up.
We're spending a good chunk of money, 1.5m is not chump change in this league! But the circumstances of our players signing will have impacted many of their salaries.
I think it's naive to think the same isn't going to happen at Dundalk and that most of their players won't be on high salaries, especially those coming in post 'Peak 6'. You simply have more players that were wanted by other clubs. We did similar a few years back when we had the money and were handing out big contracts to the likes of Gamble and Georgie, though that was done with less sense involved.
You've obviously got the money, so it's probably not an issue, but it will drive up prices for top players in the league.

I don't get why dundalk supporters are trying to deny or talk down the huge money being thrown around. You have millions from Europe and have been taken over by billionaires ......if they weren't paying the highest wages and splashing transfer fees you'd have a right to ask what are they doing with the money. If rovers go all the way in Europe this year I'd be dissapointed if we weren't spending money next year.
This is probably the easiest league in Europe to buy and dominate. Small crowds and no tv money.

Is that what is happening?
Most Dundalk supporters are delighted by the recent additions of Kelly and McEleney with the anticipation of Dylan Watts being added to that.
The Mike Treacy led consortium promised investment into the playing, management and administration staff and they have been true to their word in all these areas.
Stephen Kenny led the club to be the dominant club in Ireland over the last 5 years; we are all hopeful that the current developments can take the club to a higher level again.
This time last year you paid a significant 5 figure sum for Sadlier.
The last window you signed an SPL regular striker
This window you have signed an EPL premier league regular.
Dundalk spend a few quid and rovers and cork have a cry about it.
at the end of the day we can only field 11 players at a time.
Long Live King Kenny
Old habits!?! As mentioned before LoI fans seem to take a moral objection to clubs spending money. It's obviously due to the history of clubs that spent big in the past and damaged the league when they got in to diiculty. I think Dundalk fans, myself included, still fear that history could be repeated down the line and what we are spending might not be sustainable. Of course we hope that our situation will be different from Shels, Drogheda et al, but it doesnt stop the little nag in the back of the head. Hopefully this is a genuine new era in LoI that is sustainable and more clubs get the inward investment from proper investors. I want Dundalk to dominate forever and a day and would make no apologies if due to the new owners that this happens using financial clout. I suppose when I read managers of other clubs using Dundalk spending as a way to detract from the league I think its a pity. Claiming issues with credibility by re-signing one of the leagues most talented players back to the league is a folly. It could have the opposite effect where English clubs think that LoI clubs will no longer fold for a pittance when negotiating a transfer deal. The days of take hand and all for 20k thinking of UK clubs might just be coming to an end......
I think you are selectively quoting me there as if I'm attacking Dundalk for spending money or fans for denying it , I'm actually saying I've no problem with it whatsoever. Good luck to DFC they have it they are entitled to spend it.
I honestly don't think either JC or SB were whinging about it they were just being honest and stating facts, they cant compete on financial terms anymore with DFC. so be it its up to Cork Rovers or whomever to find another way.
Jeez now you are being very sensitive , I was typing quickly , should have said " with the huge money being invested in the team" my point is the same I don't care good luck to you if we had it id want it spent and to dominate. If we won 10 in a row id be looking for number 11![]()
Well done on completely ignoring the entire post you quoted and pointing out something I already acknowledged.
Crying about it? By acknowledging the reality of it? You will be out spending us. By quite some distance. That will give you a significant advantage. That's the reality. I'm not sure why dundalk fans feel the need to argue otherwise.
Your interpretation of "argue" appears to include discuss / debate / have alternative perspectives.
Let me be clear on the point you raise about acquiring a significant advantage:
Dundalk have already had a significant advantage over most of the last four seasons as evidenced primarily by winning 3 league titles in a row and reaching the Europa League group stages - mainly because of Stephen Kenny and the last owners. Cork eclipsed that gap last year and all Dundalk fans eagerly wish to see that advantage restored this season and widened in the seasons ahead.
Part of that is likely to be the additional investment that the current owners appear to be willing to put into the playing budget. We all hope that this will lead to further success and then subsequent re-investment to maintain that advantage
There may well be discussion on other points (such as the validity of the comments from Caulfield and Bradley, that some see as defeatist or a deflection), but the goal of try to develop a "significant advantage" over rivals is indisputable
While dundalk have undoubtedly been dominant, most years they've been pushed close. The gap between the squads has been small and Dundalk's experience and Kennys management has seen them through, imo.
My concern, and id imagine it's similar for Rovers fans and others, is that the gap between squads is going to become significantly wider, as the budget increases well beyond others. This won't so much be with the league in mind, but for the aimed for Euro runs, where a bigger squad of quality is needed to ensure ye can qualify for CL while performing in Europe.
I think the goal isn't to maintain they advantage ye had, but to increase it to the point that ye can be successful year on year on all fronts. This is great for Dundalk fans of course, but it's not surprising that other fans and managers are nervous of a Rosenborg style domination in the coming years.
Caulfield and Bradser if we dont hammer Talinn!

According to Neil O’Riordan, Dylan Watts has apparently changed his mind and is no longer headed for Dundalk.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.
