    Post of the Month?

Have seen this work on other websites.....we don't need a big system of nominations etc. (less ya want to); the mods, or a mod, can select the 4 best posts each month and stick em in a poll which runs for the last two days of said month.....could be a good laugh and helps the community feel...what does everyone think?

I've never seen a POTM that continues to work. What usually happens is that someone offers to take charge, manages it for a month or two, gets bored, and drops it without taking responsibility for it's continuation. I'm not entirely averse to the idea, but tbh I'd put little or no effort into it beyond suggestions as to how it's run and monitoring to see it's running ok.

It's very easy to run btw, you just put a Sticky in Off Topic for POTM nominations, and at the end of the month you pick one or put it to a vote. Prolly best to just pick one yourself, or choose a poster to pick one (like they do with the b3ta challenges).

Sounds good .... definitely some quotes anyway .... there are some classics from time to time !!
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

might encourage even more people than at the moment to post up stuff trying to be funny

Trying to be funny is fine, I'm just not fond of all the people trying to be funny at other people's expense.

Course "trying" was the operative word in your post Magoo.

Leave him, he's young and yet to be worn into cynical bitterness like the rest of us on here
(He seems even more optimistic in real - non cyber - life )
Where am I now? I'm over here,
I've got those empty pockets and I can't afford a beer.

I know, hence the big grin face at the end of my post - I take it you won't be nominating that one for post of the month.

If you're volunteering, yes, you can. But I reserve the right to replace all your posts with "TOLD YOU SO TOLD YOU SO TOLD YOU SO" if you end up quitting in a huff.

Will cut ya a deal.......a 2 month trial starting in Feb on the basis that people can nominate posts thoughout the month in a sticky thread then I pick the best 4 and start a pole for the final week of the month
I can quit after the 2 months if it really doesn't work out but if I decide to make it permanent an bite of more than I can then ya can go for the "TOLD YOU SO" though I'm sure ya wouldnae be that mean ...i mean ALL ma posts?
Just would need a trial to see if I can fit it in with college/St. John Ambulance/Work with no risk of having all ma posts wiped? what ya think?

Sure, but I honestly can't see the poll working. I'll leave it to you though.

Aye I respect that.....better, simpler idea....people nominate posts on the sticky thread-within the week of every month I announce a winner......and I still get ma 2-month-I told you so-risk-free trial?

Yeah, I was only kidding about screwing with your posts. I'll do something much nastier, be a nice surprise for you.
