One positive I saw at first day of training is Robbie looks in a lot better shape than he did last season.
Squad at the minute:
Keepers: Freddy Hall, Brendan Clarke
Defenders: Shaun Kelly,Tony Whitehead,David O'Connor, Robbie Williams, Shane Tracy
Midfielders: Stephen Kenny,Lee J Lynch, Shane Duggan,Paul O'Conor,Clyde O'Connell,Ian Turner
Strikers: Dean Clarke,Chris Mulhall,Garbhan Coughlan
Back to pre season training now and so far there is no improvement at all from last year. I think the majority on here said at the end of last season that we needed a LB,CB,Winger and 2 strikers at least so far we still need all of those really don't we? I'm still not at panic stations yet but we need these fellas from the UK to come soon and be very good quality.

Things are going to improve soon as Darrah Rainsford is training with the squad. There's our quality striker!
Looking at that squad we desperately need two strikers especially when you consider Dean Clarke will more than likely be a winger for us. I thought John O'Flynn was re-signing but no sign of him yet either.
Keepers: sorted
Defence: We need to bring in better players than we have. Some of those are subs at best.
Midfield: We need to bring in some back-up.
Attack: We need to bring in better players than we have. Not a genuine striker amongst them at the moment.
Some of the lads that would be starting as the squad stands are not good enough to be starters. We need to bring in players, and not just squad players, but a few players that would be central team members.
I'm not optimistic that we'll do that.
Been reading this thread for a while and decided to add my tuppence worth. Even if it just to reiterate what people have been saying.
Like most people on here i'm worried by our lack of transfer activity. Turner and Clarke are decent additions but we know that they're not going to cut it if we're seriously going to achieve a decent league position.
Paudie O'Connor is a strange one. He's a player with potential to play at a decent level in England but at the moment I think he is seriously delusional if he thinks he can make the move now. He needs to challenge himself at Premier division LOI level before he can even think of moving to somewhere in England.
I think losing Aaron Greene will be massive for us. I was really impressed with him last year. Granted he fell away towards the end of the year but he has premier league quality and not keeping him shows a lack of ambition from the club.
As things stand I think we'll be in a relegation battle. The defence is a major concern as is the lack of a proven goalscorer at this level. Despite he's injuries i think John O'Flynn needs to be signed up. Even just to offer an option from the bench. I was also disappointed we didn't go for Mark O'Sullivan. He would have been an excellent target man for the year. Losing Sean Russell now means we don't have decent options from the bench.
I'm afraid Martin Russell will need to pull off some decent transfers from the UK in the next few weeks if we're going to go anywhere this season.
WHY AREN'T WE SIGNING NEW PLAYERS????
1. Is there money available???
2. Are we even pursuing players and offering attractive contracts???
3. Can Russell attract players he has never worked with before??
4. Is Limerick FC as a club just not attractive enough to potential signings??
5. Is Russell happy with what he has got??
Clarke and O Connor are the only players we have gotten in that haven't played here before. Surely the Markets Field is a good selling point for the club plus a chairman that makes sure his players are always paid etc so why isn't it happening??
I think there is something radically wrong in the club this cannot be normal
Really? Is this your first time experiencing a Limerick FC preseason?
My point is last time we were in premier there was something wrong aswell we had no money lol.
Now we are been told by the club there is money there were are the players??
With 3 teams going down surely it's not right that the club are still miles short in every area of the pitch surely they see your bray and harps etc strengthening they know we are in trouble here.
I dunno what is wrong with me this season but after all the years of seeing this stuff cost us over and over again I am still hopeful for now.
Players in 'not falling over themselves to sign for newly promoted team' shocker. We need to cut our cloth a little, less Christy Fagan, more Danny North I'm afraid.
I highly doubt it tbh you offer em enough money and they will be playing here I'd be fairly sure. Loads of reasons that people might not come here being newly promoted is near the bottom I imagine it means nothing at all. With so much turnover a newly promoted team could get into Europe their first season up with the right money and manager.
I tend to agree. If the money really was there, it shouldn't be too hard to pitch to a player that Limerick could be challenging for Europe within a season or two. I'd say a lot of clubs try to make themselves look like a Dundalk in waiting. If there is an attractiveness problem to playing for Limerick, I don't think its to do with the club's immediate prospects.

Pats Harps and Drogs all making decent signings today, meanwhile it seems like absolutely nothing happening with us. I was told there was supposed to be some movement today but it didn't happen now I am told it may be tomorrow someone might be arriving. If they are not here soon my hope will die a quick death.
One for Gary Spain:
Have Limerick FC ever put together two back to back good progressive years?
I'm around it nearly 25 years and I'm struggling??
I suppose maybe scullys last year into Taylor's first year was solid progress but we were hacking away at that with an axe by the end of the second year.
1st division title and promotion under Allardyce followed by 6th place in the 'top half' of the split and a League Cup win would be an example.
We got relegated the following season though.
