    Dundalk

Wexford put in a huge physical shift to try to derail the Dundalk express in Ferrycarrig tonight but failed to do so although their performance will give some encouragement for the remaining games. With a number of players either suspended or injured, Youths went with Graham, Craig, Lee, Lasty, Aidan, Conor, Peter, Jonny, Duxey, Andy and with Roxy plying a lone furrow up front. Wexford's only chances came early on the game when, on ten minutes, Jonny Bonner had a free just wide of Gary Rogers's right hand post and just before the quarter hour mark, Duxey Dunne had a shot which went whistling just over the bar. Dundalk's first real effort on target came on 22 minutes when a low shot from the right stung Graham's hands, but the rebound was cleared by a Wexford defender. On 25 minutes, Graham Doyle had an easier save to make from a shot by Meenan for Dundalk. The yellow cards then started to flow with the first in the book being Meenan for a pull-back on Duxey Dunne. Before the half ended, Conor O'Keeffe and Peter Higgins for the Youths both ended in the book for tackles. The goal then came for Dundalk with three minutes to go in the half and the build-up was fortuitous for the champions. A shot by the Youth's Duxey Dunne was blocked to such an extent that the ball broke into the Youth's own half just like an inch-perfect pass for Macmillan and he ran on to finish nicely for Dundalk for 1-0 to the away side. 1-0 to Dundalk at half-time with Graham Doyle also getting a yellow for dissent.

Second half started with Lasty doing well to clear a headed effort by Gartland off the line. More yellow cards then followed for Lasty and Duxey Dunne and you could sense that someone on the Youths side was going to get two cards. It eventually happened on the hour mark when Peter Higgins was judged to have impeded a Dundalk attack and the Youths were down to ten. Eric Molloy then came on for Conor O'Keeffe on the 70 minute mark as excellent work by Graham Doyle and some last ditch defending by the Youths kept the score to 1-0. Eric Porter then came on with fifteen to go and again impressed on the pitch. The Youths did manage to notch a few corners at the end but didn't really threaten Gary Rogers's goal with Dundalk taking all three points on a 1-0 scoreline.

For Wexford, Lasty and Lee Grace had an excellent game at the back with Graham Doyle again impressive between the sticks behind them. Otherwise, the entire team worked their socks off with Jonny Bonner providing the creativity in midfield. Dundalk again looked the most powerful, paciest and fittest team in the Division and showed little effects of their arduous journey to Warsaw in midweek. Wexford just need to work just as hard in their remaining games and see if the effort can keep them out of the bottom two. 1-0 at full-time with 714 at the match.
