im off to london for the weekend next week . just wondering what kinda prices would i paying for a pint of guinness in the city centre? would it be any less than that out in twickenham ?

Drink in London can be brutal expensive in the centre - though usually still cheaper than Dublin !
Whetherspoons are probably your best bet for cheap beers, but as a word of warning : they're all devoid of any atmosphere/music/TV etc, and being famously cheap they can attract an 'interesting' crowd. At best they're full of old people, alcoholics and students. At worst they're rough as feck. (though the one in Derry is a glittering exception to all of this. Luckily the Wetherspoon's reputation doesn't seem to have travelled across the Irish Sea...).
I went into the Wetherspoons in Tooting - not a rough area - last week for me lunch at midday on a Wednesday and the Police had to come and buck some guy out for threatening behaviour on another punter. And that's one of the nicer ones....
Pubs at Twickenham will be jammed for the rugby, so try and get your skin-full somewhere en route if you can.
All-Bar-One isnt bad too (again a chain of which there are a few eg one in Leicester Sq, one a bit further on towards all the theaters), a bit more expensive than Weatherspoons, but slightly better atmosphere - but if your planning on getting food I'd say stick with Weatherspoons as they'll give you a discount on your pint if you order it at the same time and their meals are cheaper than All-Bar-Ones (and the quality is IMO pretty much the same).
If your looking to buy some tins for the train/journey to the ground then either get it at a corner shop, there is usually one very near each tube station or there is a Tesco "Metro" on Oxford Street (between Ox Circus and Bond St tube stations) that is probably the cheapest - the Tesco ones will be chilled whereas the random shop ones may have been at room temp.

Are you staying in the center of town or out in the burbs, cause to back up what the other lads said the city center is an expensive place to go out in.
But if your about on a sunday O'Raffertys in Wood Green, North London is £1.60 a pint of Guinness.
Its crazy to see people be what society wants them to be but not me.
If possible try to avoid staying in central London for too long as the Stout is overpriced and rank, Twelve Pins (Finsbury Park) and the above mentioned O' Rafferty's - £1.60 a pint Sunday to Thursday - Wood Green will be alright for a quiet pint, these will be sound for the Sunday after the game.
For the Saturday night you are pretty much taking your chances, try your Oirish named places - Waxy O' Connors etc. - if possible avoid O' Neill's pubs, you may find many places uncomfortably packed - difficullt to get served and your wallet will be distinctly lighter when you've got to the front.
Anything south of the river no idea as like every decent London cabbie I don't go south of the river, I think Steve and Pauro are around that way. I suppose The Swan in Stockwell may well be a good effort.
When are you landing in where are you flying to and staying better?

one of my friends is in college in strawberry hill in twickenham staying with him thursday to sunday.
That will be St Marys collage, not to sure around that way (right in the middle of Rugby country), but to back up what Pat said stay away from those O'Neill's pubs cause their garbage, I wouldn't bother with Leicester square either it's horrible at night time, but Covent Gardens fine with some pretty goods pubs around there (but pricey).

Twikenham's not the most sophisticated night out, but the craic's great when the rugby's on.
The Cabbage Patch is pretty much the best/only night club in town, though the upstairs club seems to attract a staggeringly ugly clientele.....
The Tup is a good place to watch the rugby/go along after the game to get lashed on snake-bite and black and do a bit of 'operating' if you're a single man...

Oh I don't know, I think that a drinking competition should be drawn up between Yorkshire goths - the fashion took of in Dewsbury I'm lead to believe - and rugby heads.
