That was for Ireland against Bulgaria..
Just seen Duff's goal against Man U where his
free kick goes straight in after one bounce.
Didn't Andy Reid score an almost identical goal?
I think it was for Forest, although I beleve he scored
from the left of the goal which would be even harder to
do for a left footer due to the natural curve of the cross.

I've seen a few of those goals in recent years. Celtic lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich after MAckay scored one in the last few minutes.
They are very difficult to defend against but Howard has to take the bull by the horns and come and punch a ball like that. It's his responsibility if its in the 6yrd box!!
I thought you were off the drink Ronnie?

Its was just one of those balls that impossible to defend, Ferdinand seemed to get pushed away very easily as the ball was on the way too. Delighted to see Jose teach Fergie a lesson too, cant wait to see his red face come May when he finishes the season without a trophy.....or a job![]()

The quality of Chelsea's set pieces has been a big factor in their success this season. There's a lesson there for the Irish team. Our corners & frees have been poor so far this campaign which is inexcusable because tight games can often be won and lost on basics like that. Kerr should also use Duff's expertise in training to teach our defence how to cope with that type of situation.
A well delivered inswinger will always cause trouble. Nevertheless, Howard should have read the situation better. If he had more confidence he could have taken the ball close to full height and there'd never even have been a sniff of danger. Instead he hoped someone else would take charge.
Having a man on the post would have helped too.
But fair play to Duffer. I only saw the last 35 minutes but he was up & down the pitch like a yo yo, never squandered possession, made some great tackles, made a general nuisance of himself and delivered a dangerous free kick. Let's hope he maintains his form and fitness for our games.

no such thing. That ball bounced before it went in, Howard or Ferdinand should have grown a pair and put a hand/head on it respectively.

Great photo Tetsujin.
Spot on. I don't know that stats of the cuff but a large number of their goals have come from set-pieces and its obviously down to Jose's planning capabilities. The most startling example was at Highbury when the Arsenal defence were wetting themselves at every corner and free kick.Originally Posted by Stuttgart88
Duffer just keeps on getting better and his work-rate is phenominal. At one crucial stage in the second half he tracked back from taking a corner to making a goal-saving intercept in his own box. Going foward he skinned Heinze a couple of times and made it look embarressingly easily. Finally, he should be getting a lot more credit for his wicked delivery for the goal.Originally Posted by Stuttgart88
