    davy byrne signs

    todaysmirror

"davy byrne is the latest player to make the move to longford town.

byrne joins the midlanders from derry city and the dubliner will boost a midfield that has already being enhanced by the signingd of tom mohan and gary cronin.

the former shels, dundee utd and st pats central midfielder is expected to slot into the engine room alongside dean fitzgearld as town look to build on their fai cup and league cup success of last season."

an excellent signing imo. i know he went off the boil at pats and derry. but i rem two class goals of his around two years ago for shels in the short season and for derry city in the fai cup semi last season.

so it looks like our midfield is:

    kirbs deano davy byrne baker/mohan
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Hmmmm wasn't it more he hardly played due to injury. Good player, but injury prone, so I hope his contract reflects this. If it does, then a good (potentially excellent) signing, if it doesn't then I'll reserve judgement...

I know it was definitely being discussed that his contract would be availability related so we'll see,he also as far as i know provided a medical report saying he was fully fit so hopefully he is. Like I said, we'll wait and see but his ability isn't in doubt
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

well, if it's availabilty related, it's a great signing. I can't blame Matthews for taking the chance.

A very competitive midfield of Deano and Davy Byrne would be as good a many in the league.

If you can get Davy fit enough to last the full game, he'll be excellent for you. A class act with a great football brain and a dangerous shot he oozes quality and his passing is a cut above the vast majority of midfielders in the EL.

Unfortunately nobody, including Derry, have yet managed to get, or keep him fit enough to be anything other than a luxury.
