Good header by O Shea, Arter had looked pretty good gives us a bit of fluidity as
opposed to our traditional wooden look in midfield he certainly wont grow any roots during the game.

having watched that goal now, I noticed during the replay that O'Shea was screaming for a handball against the Dutch defender on the line. And on the replay behind the goal it was a definite penalty. I wonder if the referee would have given the penalty had Long not bundled it home.

Smashing header from O'Shea but poor marking by his man.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

If it was a hand ball, then why is not a red card offense?
Is such a handball only an offense if it succeeds to stop the ball from going into the net?

Well I don't know if the referee saw it and just let it go but his hand DID stop O'Sheas header from hitting the onion bag; however, the ball ricocheted from the defenders hand to Longs foot and we got the goal.

Just not sure what would have happened had it rebounded to safety. Probably should be a red card.

Yes, the red card in such a scenario would have been for denying a goal scoring opportunity. But it didn't so no card. Also from June 1st, such an offense will now be a yellow if the referee deems it a legitimate attempt to play the ball.

Looks like McGoldrick has overtaken Murphy in O'Neill's thoughts.

I imagine Keogh is being rested after a long season or does his absence from the last 3 games mean O'Neill is having second thoughts about him?

Just realised Netherlands failed to qualify when I went to look at their odds.

Ireland are a healthy 150-1, I feel my EW bet on them is a fine investment.

Bad defending free header from point blank range. A gift of a goal.

    Awful defending in fairness.

McClean has been superb up front. Can't do it all by himself though. Walters has been a statue in this half.

Great ball by Hendrick just before the equalizer.

Exactly. As was said on his thread. But he was making out he was eradicating these.

Who would you have given it to? Duffy 'was' up there, Coleman played fairly well. A lot of 7/10s, nothing more. Wouldn't begrudge Arter getting it, can't think of anyone doing much better.

Duffy should have got it but lost his man for the goal.

Long would have been the obvious choice. Whelan had a pretty good game. O'Shea restored my confidence in him after some rotten club performances.

Suppose you can't really begrudge him for it as he was up there with all of them - but it was always going to be either McGoldrick or Arter getting it barring some miraculous event.
