The 'Kenny Shiels is quite the interesting character' thread.

    http://www.derryjournal.com/sport/de...king-1-7347665

He's the gift that keeps on giving.

This line made me laugh in particular:

"But you would think whoever put the fixtures out would have thought, there’s a club going through transition and they want to better their facilities so their high gate fixtures - massive fixtures in terms of finance - then two games at home to Harps would be logical."

Harps aren't building a new stadium either Kenny. Harps aren't a club in transition either Kenny. Toys. Pram.

"“We had 17 away games last season and the same again this season, That’s not a great balance. We have two trips to Wexford this season. We had one trip to Cork but now it’s two and I understand that’s by accident and not design."

Let's not forget Kenny. Harps also have Cork and Wexford twice away this season, in fact, we've just had away trips to Galway twice in two weeks, Cork last week and Wexford this week.

(I couldn't think of a better way of naming the thread that wasn't full of expletives)

    Mod Edit: I could.

Has oul Kenny done something to annoy you in the past? He certainly seems to have irked you.

For what it's worth, he has a point on the Harps match being a Tuesday night (and about midweek games in general), but he doesn't seem to know how fixture lists vary every two years (in theory).

Not annoyed me personally, but his constant ramblings are a great source of entertainment. His idiotic remarks about dugouts in every ground he visits are pathetic. He's complained several times about Harps. And the parts quoted above are ridiculous. Living in his own bubble.

I agree that midweek matches are a disaster for everyone, but his way of accusing everyone of being against Derry is ridiculous.

Certainly a colourful character. At some stage he will actually have a point about something and the dugout stuff and whining about not getting the fixtures he asked for will undermine his credibility. But as long as Derry keep winning I very much doubt their fans will care.

He's clearly a self-serving loon. Where he fits on the scale of football manager lunacy, among Fenlon, Kenny, Caulfield, Collins et al is up for debate

He seems the eccentric type but hey why not and Derry are doing far better than I and many others thought so far. His strange rambles and whinges keep the focus on him and off the team so a method in his madness? I like him purely because he didn't complain about the pitch in Oriel instead it was his inability to see the game from the away dugout in keeping solidarity with the Derry fans on the away terrace.

No doubt Kenny would describe his lunacy as exceptional!

'Manager feels his team is hard done by/complains about mid-week fixture change' - not a while lot to see here folks, particularly in the pantheon of local football managers. The quote's pretty out there but, again, we're talking about League of Ireland managers.

That isn't to say Shiels isn't a bit of a maniac, that dugout stuff was a fantastic bit of grousing.

The reason Harps fans get to take the lead with this is because Ollie Horgan is the only manager who would say he and his club brought a mid-week fixture change on themselves.
    Ou-est le Centre George Pompidou?

for two years in a row we had to play Cork away in a mid week fixture so Kenny has a point. the FAI are a law on themselved!
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Similar to his rant back in December about the FAI and fixtures where he thought Harps and the FAI should agree to switching the first game of the season to Brandywell, he's great craic

Ok players are by and large semi-pro and mid-week games i'm sure are disruptive in that regard but we are hardly living in a big country. With some exceptions 3 hours on a coach would get you to most places. There are lower divisions on the continent and in England particularly conference and the north/south conference divisions that are also semi-pro/amatuer who have similar and greater distances to travel than those in LoI. Its a bit days of old where people packed tea and sandwiches for a trip to Dublin as if it were some epic journey. Derry, Harps, and Cork may have a point with some fixtures but Dublin to Cork isn't a crazy long journey and if Rovers leave promptly after the game are hardly getting home at 3 or 4am! I am not saying though that fixtures couldn't be a bit more sensible and better thought out especially if trying to promote the league. If it is possible to fix Harps and Derry for mid-week rather than a trip to Cork then it should be done. One of the more attractive fixtures in Turners Cross is against Shamrock Rovers so not having the game on a Friday will have some financial impact for Cork on gate receipts. In fairness to Fenlon he hasnt rolled out the fatigue excuses after playing Friday and then having to go to Cork a couple of days later.

Seems all a bit unnecessary considering they're 2nd and have had their best start in years, the away support will definitely be affected for the derby but it won't be because it's a Tuesday night or on TV!!

The Kenny Shiels is gas craic thread!!

We all love the rantings and ravings of Kenny Shiels right??

He'll never let you down for a soundbite or a rant be it post or pre-match.

Genuinely would love to have a few pints with the guy.

The behind the goal official Paul Tuite awarded Dundalk a controversial penalty last night in the Brandy

Speaking to Gav McLaughlin post match in OP on Sunday re his sons arm injury.

When asked if he knew what damage his son Dean did to his arm. His reply? "I haven’t, no, because you guys have kept me back!”
Also from Gavin McLaughlin Twitter a/c

Just typed up Kenny Shiels' post match reaction from today. The phrase 'crazy as a bag of cats' definitely comes to mind.
