Well done to Pats for including a very nice piece in their programme about the links between the executed 1916 leader, Michael Mallin and Emmet Road in Inchicore. No author given, unfortunately. As for the match, the less said about it the better. Wexford were particularly poor in the first half and paid the price for not being able to get near the ball being played around by Pats with some ease and for some non-marking when the ball came into the penalty area. Pats had most of the possession early on and scored with the first decent cross when Timlin was given acres of space to score with a free header. On ten minutes, Danny Furlong hit the inside of the post with a shot but it stayed out and was cleared by the Pats defence for a corner. And that was basically as good as it got for Wexford on the night. Pats went two up shortly after when Christy Fagan did a keepy-uppy three times with the ball in the Youth's penalty area without anyone getting near him and despatching a volley past Graham Doyle in the Youth's goal for 2-0. Wexford's passing was several notches below that of Pats and with ten minutes to go in the half, Conan Byrne smacked a volley past Graham Doyle into the top right corner for 3-0 at half-time.
Wexford began the second half at a higher tempo and managed to create one or two half chances before, on 14 minutes of the second period, Billy Dennehy crossed low into the box to find Conan Byrne coming in at the far post and he drove it home for 4-0. Walking back to the centre circle and while the ball was dead, the ref flashed a straight red to Danny Furlong for what was presumably dissent and that was that. Jonny Bonner made a difference when he came on as a sub after his return from an eye injury and late subs for Wexford were Conor English and Aidan Friel. Graham Doyle managed to hold onto some decent shots to keep the score at 4-0 while Andy Mulligan showed some class down the left and Hopper Kenny worked hard in midfield. Wexford will have to regroup after this disappointing effort and get back to the performance levels set in previous games. 4-0 to a deserving Pats on the night.
