    Top Scorer 2016

Some have made Top Scorer predictions in the 2016 predictions thread

Paddy Power gives their assessment with odds on 59 players topping the scoring charts

    http://www.paddypower.com/football/i...grp_ids=106498

The best striker in the country Christy Fagan is the favourite at 13/2 but given his injury record and the unproven nature of the Pats squad, this is probably a poor value bet.

Where do you see the value?

The ones catching my eye are

    14/1 Ciaran Kilduff
    18/1 Ishmail Akinade
20/1 Ronan Finn (if he is the nominated penalty taker)
    33/1 Kurtis Byrne
    50/1 Padraic Cunningham

I'd say they're missing a heap of people from it. No sign of the likes of Michael Rafter, who, if fit, will score goals for Harps.

Danny North at 14/1 is surely worth a tenner though.

I fell for that trick last season

As Ezeikial says, Fagan is the best striker in the league but you just can't guarantee that he's going to play enough games to be top scorer

Patterson at 18's or O'Sullivan at 22's worth a punt
    Here on a technicality.

Ronan Finn could be a good punt at 20/1, as Ezeikal points out.

He is looking very sharp and will play further forward with Towell now gone. He will also get more free kicks opportunities.

Robbie Benson is missing from the list; could be an outside option to place. Depends in part on how crowded Dundalk's midfield is of course.

Towell was a freak last season, I doubt another midfielder will top the charts this season. Has Finn scored more than 10 in any league season yet?

Probably not - I mention him because Finn is so high up, and I think Benson had a better scoring record for us than Finn ever did. He's played up front as well

Finn averaging 7.3 league goals per season, with just 5 of Dundalk's 78 last season.

    Finn goals by season
    2008 - 1
    2009 - 7 (1st Div)
    2010 - 8
    2011 - 5
    2012 - 8
    2013 - 8 (inc 2 pens)
    2014 - 6
    2015 - 5

So wouldn't be backing him for top scorer this year

    Drennan is 8/1...

Miele might be worth a punt at 16/1.

The IF FIT part is the only reason we were able to get Rafter. He'd easily be in one of the top 4 sides in the league if he was 100% fit and injury free.
Candles will be lit all season, he could be the difference in us staying up or going down.

No he wouldn't. He's an OK LOI player but wouldn't get into any of the top 5/6 from last year

We signed him two years ago and he was one of better performers in pre season before going down with injury.

Looking forward to his impending hat-trick against St Pat's.

On his day Rafter was one of the better players in the godawful Dundalk side that were blessed not to be relegated. And in fairness to him he had a great game in Waterford to keep us up. Rafter to Harps was more of a coup for Rafter than Harps.

Rafter if fit (which he must have proven to Harps) is an unbelievable signing for Harps!

For the money we can offer we would be doing well to get a striker better than Rafter, quality strikers willing to come to the North west are few and far between.
Irish by birth ,Harps by the grace of god.
