Thomas Butler who last week was let go by Dunfirmline is now on trial at Sheffield Wednesday. Hopefully he gets fixed up soon.

How the hell was he let go by Dunfermline? What's wrong with that bloke? He was actually a bit of a talent for a while.
That was a reserve game, I don't think trialie's can play competitive matches.Originally Posted by tetsujin1979

He was only on a contract until the end of december with Dunfermline and became a free agent in January.. As far as i know he played well with Shef Wed reserves the other night and should be signing a contract with them soon.
Not a bad move as Wednesday are pushing for promotion and are averaging gates of over 22,000 for home games. So i can't see him heading to the EL just yet...
Sorry, yeah, it was a reserve game, should have mentioned that.Originally Posted by eirebhoy

If Wednesday keep up with these signings they'll be in the Championship in no time. Glenn Whelan and Joey O'Brien are two of our best prospects. They've also put in another loan bid for Mellor and have only recently signed James Quinn. They've scored 9 and conceded just 1 in their last 4 games. With the 3 Irish midfielders at the club I'll be keeping an eye on them.
Despite his goals Mellor is a poor player imo, he was awful with West Ham and he's not premiership class, with Morientes signing for Liverpool he'd do well to get out now.
No disrespect to the EL, but Thomas Butler is too good for it. Would prefer to see him play with high-flying Sheffield Wednesday.Originally Posted by drummerboy

As a wednesday fan weve been through a hell of a lot in the last 5 years and the performances of whelo and joey have been excellent. Their attidude has been something else.it cant be easy to drop down two divisions but they have been outstanding.Joey is only on loan hopefully we can get him for the rest of the season. He loks really promising.I dont know much bout butler but we do need to strenghten our team. And i knew sheff united were after mellor but i dont think wednesday are but id take him.We had kenwyne jones of soton who scored 7 in 6 games but the saints took him back.Hopefully we can keep striding forward and get automatic promotion.I dont think luton will hold on.By the way the site iswww.swfc.co.uk
I'm afraid League One is about Butler's level now, he has definitely slipped.Originally Posted by TheJamaicanP.M.

Butler was, of at least, could have been too good for the EL, far too good for it but he's half the player he was, if even that. He certinaly wouldn't get into the current Shels team and if Wednesday get promoted he'd struggle with the form he's shown over the past few seasons.Originally Posted by TheJamaicanP.M.
the league will really progress with that kind of attitudeOriginally Posted by TheJamaicanP.M.
Dont think you can take the moral high ground with me. I was just being honest. The league will hardly progress with some EL supporters wanting to see Shelbourne do badly in Europe.Originally Posted by Éanna

I'm not taking the moral high ground, I was stating fact. And what have shels got to do with anything?Originally Posted by TheJamaicanP.M.
Whatever about the moral highground TheJamaicanP.M. is just plain wrong anyway.
Certain EL fans, especially Cork ones think it is ok to support the opposition when Shels play in Europe. This is bourne out of jealousy. Surely wanting to see an EL team be knocked out of Europe is more detrimental to the domestic game than me suggesting that Thomas Butler is too good for the league. I dont hear you criticising these people Eanna, perhaps because you are one of them? people is glass houses shouldnt throw stones.Originally Posted by Éanna
Regardless of what SlashED might think, Butler, if he fulfils his undoubted potential is too good for the EL. I believe Butler is better off staying in England if he is genuine about his football career.

The fact is he isn't going to realise the amazing potential he had. I've heard people question his lifestyle and motivation and maybe that's why but he's never progressed from the promising youngster at Sunderland, in fact he's gone way way backwards. Like I said, he wouldn't get his game for Shels now, and I was a massive fan of his as a youngster.Originally Posted by TheJamaicanP.M.
He's still young enough. He's surely no older than Liam Miller or Graham Barrett. If Sheffield Wednesday give him a chance, it will be his last. He needs to grasp this opportunity. Its not too late.Originally Posted by Slash/ED
