Cabinteely announce Pat Devlin as Director Of Football & Manager

Bit of a coup for Cabo. Interesting to see how that goes. After a couple of years consolidation they might try to push on a bit now.

Does Devlin like the role of DOF or something. That's Bray, UCD and CABO he's held the role in now. A rarity in LOI football

It's not really that rare. He's got that role because he doesn't have the badges to be officially named manager. Felix Healy had the same at Harps a few years ago alongside Peter Hutton.

Pat Devlin has a pro licence. He can manage wherever he wants

And the first division only needs an A licence anyway

I had assumed the reason he kept getting those Director of Football jobs was down to qualifications, or lack thereof.

Devo doesn't have any licence. But I think he has an exemption to allow him manage in the Premier if he wants

Was gonna say that he's been, eh, Grandfathered in, for the want of a better term. People without licences would be phased out as they retired, rather than their experience potentially being lost to the game, especially the older ones who have two notions of going into a classroom.

Yeah, grandfathered is it. Don't know if the phrase is used in football coaching, but same idea.

I remember Aaron Callaghan doing his via the English FA while he was with us, there was no FAI Pro Licence course at the time.
Upwards to the vanguard where the pressure is too high.

Cabinteely really do have huge potential. If they can tap into that Dun Laoghaire/Blackrock area, work with Blackrock rugby and redevelop Stradbrook to a decent ground, there's huge potential for them.

Could be an interesting couple of years ahead.

They won't develop Stradbrook - it's not theirs and it's not exactly easy to access either. Assume the plan is to build something of their own at some point.
