No shame tbf, Genk with an annual budget of over 40 million, and they missed a hatful of chances. Cork did well to get through two rounds......and keeping this tie competitive enough
Unlucky cork good second half Genk had a bit of class upfront made difference in end
Never seen the pitch in turners x look so bad pity for a big euro game

Genk are a class above. They looked better than BATE. At the same time, Cork weren't really at their best. On another night it could have been so different.
Nevertheless, they've every right to be proud of their efforts in Europe and they too pick up a nice financial bonus for their run as well as costs practically all covered with their full house tonight in Turners Cross.
The biggest disappointment is that two defeats have done nothing for theirs, or the leagues co-efficient.
Still a decent advertisement for the league.

Agree. Dundalks first goal was massive the other night. Totally changed the game. Up till then I wouldn't have given them a prayer of progressing. After it they were a different team. You could almost see the self belief flood into them. Funnily enough if you'd asked me last week after the first legs who I thought had the better chance of progression I'd have said Cork, but they never looked like doing it tonight. Plenty of effort but not enough quality. They actually played a lot better last week I thought.
Out for a spell, got neglected, lay on the bench unselected.
I think Corks experience was similar to ours last season with bate. The 1st leg in particular. They didn't prepare properly for us and we had a go but could only get 1 goal. They had us figured out by the 2nd leg and stopped us getting forward.
On the contrary this tie BATE hammered us in the 1st leg wasteful and a stellar defensive performance but they didn't prepare properly for us in tallaght. Hit 2nd gear and couldn't up it when they needed too. The weather help us. Everything came together.
Cork will learn from this and on the plus side for them dundalk have to play a whopping 22 games in 84 days excluding further progression in the FAI cup.
If only Cork could have got the away goal their performance deserved last week. Caulfield commented on that after the game.
There is no margin for error in games against superior opposition. Everyone needs to play 8 out of 10. That just didn't happen for Cork tonight.
Hard luck Cork. It's the nature of knockout football when coming up against a superior opponent. Cork learned lessons from last year. Hopefully like Dundalk they can advance again year on year in Europe. 3 LoI teams go into the EL. Hopefully in a few years we'll see at least one club make the playoffs more often than not.
Wasn't to be tonight unfortunately. Genk really stepped it up and we just couldn't get a proper foothold in the game. The lack of an away goal made this an uphill task. Delighted with the progression from last year, we can be well proud of that. On the atmosphere, it was electric tonight particularly after we scored. Will be rooting for dundalk in the rest of their European adventure.
Going to be strange going back to the bread and butter of the league against Sligo on Monday night.
I knew it was over at half-time and really wanted to see Marky come on.....and he did.....and Genk did not know what to do with him. His commitment is hilariously insane and he just terrifies defenders. Legend!

Bar Celtic, how many do you expect to get in the Aviva? 12-16000?
I do think that landsdowne is much handier to get to for people than tallaght, the neutrals that live in Dublin. But if its not Celtic I'd be suprised with more than 16000, especially as CL is midweek.
I am so convinced by this, that I dreamt last night that CD said 12k and I formulated the reply in my sleep....![]()
How much will they pay for rental of it? could they offer tickets at 10-15 euro to entice more people.
I was just more concerned that we actually agreed on something, our thought process or memory was exactly the same :scary:

If Dundalk draw Celtic then charge €10-15 for Dundalk supporters and other LOI fans wearing their teams jersey (apart from the Rovers home one for obvious reasons). Then charge Irish Celtic supporters €40. They'd wet their pants being able to see Celtic in the CL. For the British Celtic supporters...€40 would do too because they love a trip to Dublin and would come anyway.
30 minutes to go before the draw and probably a bit late but what are ''we'' wanting to see here....?
best financial gain in the short term? = celtic and don't qualify
In the short term cash-in Delaney-esque.......the best would be a full house (so Celtic) and then maybe lose....
In the long term any form of qualification for CL group stage will easily wipe out any half empty stadium rental problem......
what I'm trying to say is that the worst senario for Dundalk is to draw a team that don't appear on Sky (so officially no good!) , rent the Aviva at I presume a million and then have 15 000 people show up!!!
anything other than that is the lotto I think for them............

Celtic offer the best opportunity of progression. They are the worst of the seeds
Then plzen
Nicosia
Salzburg
Legia Warsaw
Not Plzan anyway - bit of a blow
And not Celtic, thankfully.
Here we go - Dundalk v Legia...
That will fill the A viva. ....With Polish fans.
Not sure what to make of that - lowest ranking team they could have got. Are they better than BATE?
