I don't think they do. Dundalk have played two away games in Europe in six days and can now get some rest and be better next week.

Can't have too many complaints but the cheapness of the goal was a sickner. BATE were horrid wasteful and Dundalk probably would have rode it out if it wasn't for the error.

Probably not in terms of general play but their shooting only needs to improve to basic levels for them to cause Dundalk problems.

The only shots they had were from distance. Even if they were on target, they should be savable.

Dundalk won't made the same mistake again with their right hand side.

Plus Dundalk will be more rested and have better energy levels.

Lets not forget that Bate are the better team. They should be considering their annual budget is E40 million.

However, I expect Dundalk to ask more questions of BATE next week.

They had a fair few chances in the box as well.

Could have lost 3-0, tad unlucky not to finish 0-0. That really was a great chance 1st half but as usual, you make a sloppy mistake in Europe, these teams will punish you. Hope to see a more adventurous Dundalk next week. Still in it but big ask now.

I hope so. They struggled to ask questions of them at home last year.

Dundalk still in the tie - just. Need to make sure Bate don't get an away goal so patience may be required next week.Get to last 15 minutes at 0-0 and they can have a real 'go'.
Bate are a decent team and rightly favs to go through but Dundalk have given themselves a chance. Mon D'town

    Did they?

I thought we equipped ourselves well last season. Chances are a premium at this level and nothing is easy.

Last night although we were destroyed all over the pitch. One silly error cost us the game. It could of been 3 4 or 5 nil but it wasn't and that gives me a glimmer of hope that we may perform one of the greatest loi stories

A weeks proper rest and recuperation who knows how well we will go. We have a good recent record in Tallaght and we are only a goal away from levelling the tie.

C'mon the tie still isn't over

I thought BATE were reasonably comfortable in Oriel last year in fairness - McMillan had one good chance, but other than that, I didn't think ye came that close to scoring. Defensively sound, but not much up front.

But next week is a different game of course. 1-0 is a worse position than the 2-1 last year, but it's far from a disaster. And there's still a second bite of the cherry to come - even if it turns out to be "just" a glamour tie against La Liga/Premiership/what have you opposition.

They were well on top and comfortable at Oriel last year. They weren't as comfortable at home last yaer though, but this time they were a lot more patient in their build up. Dundalk had largely frustrated them up until the goal, and they were taking more pot-shots. In the first half it didnt look like they would hold out, but by 70 mins they were largely running of ideas, and not creating gilt-edged chances.

Having said that 0-0 probably wasn't enough to see them through at home anyway.

I saw large parts of the second half, and enough Dundalk players showed they are capable of playing good progressive football. Even deep into the second half they were stringing together some wonderful mid-distance triangles, unfortunately the play had become so deep into the Dundalk half that it was hard for the team to move up the pitch effectively.

I think, and I'm as likely to be wrong as right on this, the higher up you go in football, the bigger the impact of having sensible footballers in the spine of your team, from keeper to centre-backs to midfield etc makes. If you have a keeper capable of controlling the ball, looking up a playing a precise pass (under some pressure) it makes a huge difference. The same with the centre-backs, even if that pass is only a 5 yd pass to a full-back or central player showing for the ball, the huge difference it makes. I'm surprised that Stephen Kenny did not make an offer for Shane Supple - although I suspect being the Dublin keeper next season would put paid to that.

Every team makes a mistake during a game. I wouldn't hang Dundalk for that. Keeping BATE scoreless will be a tough ask in Tallaght, but the task is far from insurmountable. I would hope to be there with my youngfella.

Supple has quit the Dublin panel so won't be GAA keeper anytime soon.

I know, I'm surprised one of the higher clubs weren't interested. Great signing for Bohs though.

Didn't realise he had quit Charlie, thanks.

I didn't realise he was ever on it. Maybe that's why he left Ipswich.

Celtic 1 down .... Loved if Dundalk had got them as I think Dundalk would beat them!
