No way should they use the aviva. It will be like when we used Thomond park. Probably worse actually.
Is the RDS an option?
oh boy I'm not good at football forums
BATE 2 down to Astana. That one in injury time.
Like Tallaght, RDS isn't a cat 4 stadium unfortunately. I'm not sure what it would cost Dundalk to bring RDS or Tallaght up to Cat4 status for their group games. I'm assuming Dundalk will do a cost analysis to see which is the best option for their EL games (provided they don't beat Legia of course).
I also remember someone saying on this thread that each team must nominate their stadia at the start of every CL campaign. If Dundalk haven't nominated RDS it may not be possible to change to the RDS for the group stages. Maybe someone else can clarify
Rovers had a temp third stand in but from my memory (dodgy at best of times) it was only fullish for the match against Spurs when I had to listen to Irish guys in spurs jerseys all around me talking about "our boys" are playing well...
unless Dundalk draw an English club I can't see anything like 30000 in the Aviva, the whole first team to qualify for the Champions league buzz won't be there.
Youd have to think if the Rovers board/management thought it was better than going to the Aviva the sums must be same'ish for Dundalk
Windsor Park?? *
*I'm actually only half joking.
The Tallaght Stadium website says it's a Category 4 stadium.
(After providing for increased seating capacity, presumably)
That's why it could host Rovers' group stage games.

Were all of legia's players eligible last night? It's worth a shot.....
Yea that must be accounting for temp seating to bring it up to at least 8.5k seating capacity. I'd have my doubts that Tallaght meets some of the other cat4 criteria like 200m2 for 75 people media area, 400m2 hospitality area, 2 TV studios, etc. Anyone know if Uefa have changed the criteria since Rovers EL games in 2011?
Full list of Uefa stadium categories and criteria here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_stadium_categories
Maybe it's possible for Uefa to waive some of the criteria though, depending on the opposition.
Rovers paid for the extra seating and it isn't cheap. Dundalk would have to pay rent, and the extra seating. The money's much better now but it's probably cheaper to get the Aviva.
RDS isn't available for all the games apparently so it's a non runner.
So if the only options are Thomond and the Aviva, it's a no brainer

A Thomond Park type stadia in Dublin would be a decent fit for the EL.
I would have thought capacity wise yes. I thought they would on the VIP side of the criteria as well but maybe not. Apart from capacity does Tallaght stadium meet all other category 4 criteria?
The RDS is to undergo redevelopment. 21,000 capacity. Leinster chief saying best in class. The RDS are open for it being available for other sports as well. FAI should point them in the direction of Category 4 criteria.
Some progress and standard by Dundalk that EL group stage is frowned upon. In the build up to the game though at a more advanced stage I was thinking of similarities with Drogheda and Dynamo Kiev from years back. A goal deficit could have been manageable. They'll have to go for it the next night. They'll have learned a lot from last night on the cynical side. They were a bit too honest.
As far as I'm aware it isn't really the issue of increasing the capacity but more some things like the need to increase the size of hospitality areas, the TV gantry and other things. Maybe the requirements have changed since Rovers were in the EL.
I think tallaght is deceiving in the way it meets some criteria as the building that has the main entrance to the main stand might all count as a hospitality area, the big blue box thing has a tv studio so that might be okay for studios, the gantry already there is quit big and then there's sometimes a temp one put above the tunnel so that might tick that box and then I think they may have put some temporary desks over some seats toward the middle of the main stand for media too in 2011.
So it might just bee the seating that's the problem but that is quite an expensive problem
