Question Greatest/Famous players to play in Cork.

Found some old programmes at Cork & was wondering if anyone else has memories of the good old days......best player to play City in euro competitions.

To get the ball rolling.....

Galatasaray - Hakan Sukur, Kubilay Turkilmaz....
Slavia Prague (class act) - Jan Suchoparek, Patrik Berger, radek Bejbl, Pavel Novotny.....
Bayern Munich - Effenburg, Julio Cesar?

What about the most famous austrian player ever? Tony Polster scored for Koln v. City in the inter toto in 97. The other scorer in their 2-0 win was Munteanu the romanian who scored when Romania knocked England out of Euro 2000.

Christian Ziege also played for Munich against City.

I was seriously impressed by Munteanu (Is this the right spelling ??) in the match against Koln. Going further back, anyone remeber the good old days of Cork Hibs ?

Maybe not the best player to grace ther cross but one of best performances for sure. Can remember him getting a slagging from the shed for a dodgy dive outside the box, soon afterwards he cracks a 25 yarder into the net from nothing. respect.

Ah sure we always have (maybe only have) the memories....

George Best and Geoff Hurst played for Cork Celtic while Rodney Marsh played for Hibs as did Pele. Booby Charlton turned out for Waterford a few times.

And who can forget the brilliant Liam O Brien for City????

Not the first Gunther

Our current boss isnt the first gunther to grace Cork Football.

Probally the best player even to grace a Cork Football pitch was Gunter Netzer, played for Munchengladback (spelling??) against Hibs. They won 5-0 at flower lodge, from what I've heard he was the greatest ever.

He only played a small part in the German World Cup winning squad because he was a bit of a playboy.

Best I ever persoally saw was probally Polster, what a knacker
Oh no not them again

Tony Polster was without doubt the greatest ever oponent to grace the grass of Turners Cross. With that flowing Austrian mullet and that rocket of a goal he was an instant hate figure for the shed, but still a legend all the same.

I often wondered wher is Mick Devine actually from. Is he a native of Cork?

I hear that he is a male model too. Is this true?

The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Ran into a Cobh fan at their cup match against Bohs, who said that best thing about City is Mick Devine...so I'm thinking he's from Cobh...
