I remember him playing schoolboy football in Dublin. He then went to Arsenal and made a couple of appearances as substitute, I think.

He was at Arsenal when Niall Quinn started out over there. Quinn said it was a travesty that he made it and Ampadou didn't as he was way more talented.
I remember reading about Ampadou in the mid-80s, expecting him to be our next big thing.

This was in Alan Davies' (the comedian) weekly column on all things Arsenal in this morning's The Times:
Watching the BBC’s entry for Best Comedy Drama at the 2005 Comedy Awards last week I smirked happily as D-FENS [i.e. Alex Ferguson] exploded off his bench in reaction to an Exeter player staging a remake of Neville on Reyes, Oct 2004.
It was funny until I heard the name of the Exeter player. Then it was hilarious. Kwame Ampadu. There was a Kwame Ampadu at Arsenal in 1989. Can there be two? Or was that him kicking a juicy lump out of a Moaner in Devon? You can take the boy out of North London, etc. Nice one, Kwame.
As a teenager, Ampadu was fantastically talented but had the body strength of Sid Little. He made two substitute appearances during 1989-90 and later had two seasons with Leyton Orient. It was in 1989 that another Arsenal youth product made his mark up front. Back at the club after an explosive loan spell at Orient the previous season — when his nine goals in 16 games helped them to the play-offs, and a chance to get out of the fourth division — was Kevin Campbell. He had the body strength of Nigel Benn and was hugely popular at Brisbane Road. Orient beat Wrexham in the play-offs and I took part in my one and only pitch invasion, along with hundreds of West Ham and Arsenal fans who were there to back the Os. Campbell was in the stands to support them as his loan was up. Happy days. It made me smile on Saturday night to see Kev smash in another top-flight goal for West Brom against Man City. Sixteen years later, he and Kwame are still at it — fair play to them both.
Eric Djemba-Djemba has left Man Utd to join the Villa... I suppose that's one less person Miller has to compete with.
What for? That coveted spot warming the bench behind old whiskey chops?Originally Posted by cfdh_edmundo
