IS anybody watching the Darts on BBC?
Very interesting I have to say, though I've never seen the Sky version of the WC.
There was a great match on last light between Barneveld and Van der Voort, two Dutch guys. Well great in the respect of watching Barneveld class.
Barneveld, 3 times world champion, was awesome without ever getting out of first gear. He was 4 - 0 up at the break, and it cut to your man from Football Focus, who is presenting the programs, talking to Bobby George.
Presenter: "Is there any hope at all for Van Der Voort, Bobby?"
Bobby G: "Well maybe Barney's right arm might fall off during the interval, and then Vincent may have some chance!"
Class stuff, that guy is a character.
Barneveld won the match on a 170 close out, two triples 20s and the Bull. Incredible stuff.

Darts good for 1 week a year.

Never seen Sky version & don't understand the difference. Are all sky guys fulltime pros & BBC some part-time? Do players mix in non-world champ tournaments? Are sky better players?

Seen some BBC stuff at weekend & thought 1st round standard pathetic. Saw Barney match last night & he destroyed Van der Voort. Barely missed a clear-out.

Is Darts the only sport played in basically a giant pub?

No, there was a boxing type split of associations about ten years back, before then it was a single BDC (ie the one on BBC at the moment) championship, which Phil Taylor won a few times.

Anyone remember Dexys Midnight runer playing 'Jackie Wilson Says' on Top of the Pops and by mistake someone was projecting a big image of Scotlands most famous rotund darts player?

Actually that was on the "TV's 3450 biggest gaffs" over Christmas (just flicked and they were on that) - Kevin Rowland saying it was one of the biggest myths ever that it was a mistake, they knew all about it and set the whole thing up. Also had that Canadian DJ bloke (Jansen?) on saying he didn't know about it, and was majorly panicing

Jockey Wilson used to drink pints of Vodka during matches, the no drinking/smoking on stage rule fecked him.

I have never seen a match in the Sky version but a friend of mine who is a bit of an afficionado and watches both says that on the whole the standard of the one on Sky is higher.

Sky darts are way better than BBC. Love watchin Phil Taylor, what a legend. Even when he's playing badly he still manages to win. Don't watch the BBC darts that much because half of them wouldnt hit treble 20 to save their lives

Woulden't say that, Raymond van Barneveld would do well in the PDC (Sky) Tournment but he has stayed loyal to the BDO (BBC) and you can't play in both so until that if ever we won't know.

I much prefer the BBC darts to its Sky variant. BSkyB initiated the split in 1994 over money and promptly bought out the best darts players with the promise of bigger wads of cash. Since then I have viewed the Sky competition as being artificial and devoid of any real atmosphere and excitement. Phil Taylor's dominace of the Sky competition has all but killed it and all the old pros that originally came from the BBC are now retired.

The Lakeside cannot be beaten no matter what you say. Ok, the standard is probably higher on Sky but I think that because the BDO is part time, makes it more appealing and holds to its urban English proletariat (working mens clubs). The sight of the different characters in the crowd, the panto, tacky xmas decorations, the beer swilling, tatoo clad chain smoking lads and ladettes, beer belly athletes, warts and all give it the cutting edge. This is where its at, not the hyped up, money ridden, commercialised Sky crap.

Ted Hanky, Andy Fordham, Martin Adams, Colin Monk and Barney, gods amongst men.

Its looking like a Hanky-Barneveld final........BRING IT ON.

In short, the Lakeside encapsulates everything that is the humble pub game of DARTS.
