And he was dropped by his club for not signing a new contract, nothing to do with his form or skill
Not pushed on in three years? He's progressed from League Two to playing regular football at a promotion chasing Championship club. He's sought after by other promotion chasing clubs who presumably watch him play far more often than you do.
Oh and he's become a regular for us over that period too.

Signs a new three year deal at Bristol City. Hopefully he can kick on further now - https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/odowda-extends-city-stay/
I love how Paul starts with "Pointed out originally"!
Jeez, the lad’s talented. He’s not the best we have but is far less direct / one-dimensional than others so has to be close to the team.
He took a terrible underhit pass from Judge in the build-up to the Browne goal, kept the move alive and fed Curtis(?) with a good ball. That move could easily have broken down. He did well.
As for time on his side, no doubt Paul had written off Stevens and McGoldrick.
If he is going to kick on then its time now . He sort of flatters to produce but hasn’t got there yet .
On the box tonight against Barnsley. He looks very dangerous in a central role.
Perhaps these lads are under very firm instructions to ; NOT get injured playing for Ireland from their clubs . I suppose it is up to each player to pay heed or not , to those instructions .
He got a bit of doing on their message board actually. They also seem to be missing a couple of regulars which hopefully doesn't explain the three starts in a row.
I thought he was dangerous looking. I'm not sure if the fans have put O'Dowda's lack of loyalty over the past year behind them yet.
Just watching Bristol play Birmingham, what's happened to O'Dowda, not getting much of a look in it seems. An unused sub tonight.
Nothings happened he's just not that good as I've said a long time ago.
He has good physical abilities and good footballing abilities and yet the package does not come together consistently.
Tis a strange one.
I can vouch for Paul on this one, he's been calling Callum a COD for quite a while. Of course, he's just one of many players we shouldn't get too exited about, Parrott, Connolly and Idah have all been added to the list in more recent times.
I really hope O'Dowda can turn it around. I think he's got something special but simply hasn't been delivering the numbers in goals/assists that you would expect from a player of his talent, at the age he is now. It's only a few months since he was heavily linked with an upward move, so mabye all is not lost, but he has to be considered a disappointment at this point.
