His winning goal against Norwich was brilliantly taken. He's still definitely an alternative to Robbie Brady at LWB.

Yes indeed. How is he defensively? I've mainly seen him as a winger. Never really seen him as LB

I'm not sure he has the defensive awareness tbh, he is fast enough to make up for some weakness, so maybe with some experience would improve. He also has really struggled to stay fit in the past few years, hard to rely on him because of it. I feel like we've been waiting for him to come good for 5+ years

He's not good enough defensively to play left wing back at international level, never mind left back in a four as we are now playing. Offers a useful option on the wing alright though.

He has been playing LB for Cardiff for quite a while now so is well accustomed to the role and he offers enough going forward from the position (see assist and goal vs Norwich) to make him more than viable as an alternative to Brady. Not that I necessarily think Brady needs to be replaced (I've been a defender of his here), just that O'Dowda is an decent back-up/replacement with plenty of international experience.

Wasn't it more that Lenihan(I think) was the left side of the three centre halves, and kept drifting into the centre, leaving a massive hole on the left side of defence?

They both jumped out to me as poor on the day. All that said, we’re so limited with options at left full/left wingback we’re in no position to write him off.

I think you're right about the goal, as a duo on that side it definitely didn't work, but I just have vague memory of it at this point.

I prefer him as an attacking option personally, I just feel like he's another player who hasn't quite reached a level I thought he could, but there's still time if he stays fit.

Pulls one back for Cardiff away to Portsmouth.

    Well, well!

These two sides are putting on quite the show at Fratton Park and Cardiff have made the perfect response, having gone two goals down.

They make a period of pressure on the right hand side count as Andy Rinomhota whips in a dangerous ball.

Callum O'Dowda wins his tussle with the defender and heads brilliantly in at the far post with no chance for Pompey goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid.

What a game we have here.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Shaughnessy the 30th Irish player to score in the Championship this season. We really do have ridiculous depth in certain positions now. It's the standout individual quality that we lack, even if just two or three players could get themselves to a level where they're regular starters for top 6 clubs in the Premier League, or equivalent teams around Europe, it would make a world of difference.

Couple of quality midfielders that don't get injured too often, and the same with full-backs and we would actually be in a good situation ! !

I was about to say two would be enough - a central, deeper midfielder and an attacking midfielder.

The problem is that every time I say that I think of two players I was fooled into thinking would occupy this positions.
