Accommodation seems saucy enough for this, no real budget properties such as hostels, etc. available.

Bit of a nightmare. Our only weekend game and it's an almighty pain in the arse to get to.

Read somewhere today Ryanair & Aer Lingus will be looking to put on some extra flights, but I wouldn't expect them to start in a lower price range...

We've accommodation sorted for Bordeaux. I booked City Residence Bordeaux Centre (Trivago - eBookers) for two of us for €412 for three nights (17th-20th) which wasn't so bad. A friend booked the same after that and it had gone up to €543.84. Another friend went to book it after that but it seems to be fully booked, he paid €723 for a King Room with a sofa bed at Mercure Bordeaux Chateau Chartrons. Another guy wants to come now so hopefully they'll be able to sneak him in to avail of the sofa bed and divide the €723 three ways instead of two!

Lads there are a couple of options. We ended up booking a place in la rochelle and also in biarritz. biarritzis supposedly where all the posh paris kids go but the nightlife is good, la rochelle is a bit more cultured. Ended up cancelling la rochelle, as train direct to bordeaux from biarritzis under 2 hours and only 35 euro. We have an apartment booked for a couple of nights in Bordeaux then as well. Flying into biarritz is still relatively cheap.

I'm looking at trains to get from Paris to Bordeaux on the 17th. Seem to be priced around €80-€90 one way and only takes around 3h20 if you get a direct train. I wasn't able to book on The Train Line website for some reason after putting in the various information. This one seems a bit dearer. Anybody used to travelling around Europe with any tips?

Yeah thanks, my second link seems to be the Americanised version of that site. I'd say I'll just go with that. About €96 for a one way 3hr trip is pretty saucy but how bad sure, seems pretty hassle free.

I'm getting Eurostar mostly for the hassle free nature of taking the train (assuming the drivers call off the strike). I could have flown for as much.

If you have a car, there's any amount of campsites inland from the town.

I'd book in advance, you can do it here: http://en.voyages-sncf.com/en/train-ticket
