Apparently playing quite well against Arsenal at the moment. Just sent in a wonderful pass for Bent but he didn't attack it.

He took the corner that led to the Bent goal. Chipped in twice to give Malbranque two great chances.

Delighted Reid was central in the defeat of that that smug Liam Brady's team.

    Bruce getting involved again.

Not sure public statements like this are helpful to a reproachment.
Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.

Yeah, I'm sure he's only trying to help in fairness. Most managers would be delighted with their key players not getting called up, like you say though he might be better off helping in private.

I actually think Brady is a fan of Reid. He was a similar kind of player himself.

I just don't think Trap sees Reid as someone that fits into his system to need to make amends with him for whatever the fall-out was over.

we have not finished top of our group since euro 88 and never before that so trapp has done at least as well as all our other managers.

he has completely turned around the shambles we were at the end of 2007 and we deserved to qualify. far far better than the last 7 years

Bruce does have a close enough connection with the Ireland team.
I don't see what purpose is served by talking about talks but there may be some.
There is some sort of stalemate. Andy feels his football should do the talking between himself and the manager. Bruce feels that some talk is needed as Andy's football talent has not talked loud enough.
So far Andy has not given Bruce the go ahead and intermediate. Bruce puts a few mild feelers out in public to move the issue along.

Future Ireland manager? Don't remember him ever being a contender last time around. Pity that he never felt Irish enough to play for us. Would have been a useful centre half to have had in the mid 90s .. would have been ahead of Babb at least in the team.

Good to see him taking an active role in getting Reid back into the reckoning

I thought the story went that Bruce would have played for us if it wasn't for the limit on foreigners rule in place at the time in club football.

Anyway, I see no harm in anyone trying to broker a compromise. I'd love to have Reid back in the squad.

Sounded a bit odd when Bruce was on the studio panel for the last England game and referring to them as we this, we that - given that his son plays for us. I know he's English but it just sounded odd - if you know where I'm coming from.

Why wouldn't he want Reid back playing for us??

Sure anyinternational footballer of any nationality is a much more saleable asset and its therefore in Bruce's interests to get Reid back into our set up

That's a possibility if he wanted to sell Andy on but isn't it much more in Bruce's interests to be as successful as he can with his club by finishing as high as possible and have his players fit and ready for action for the club?

Maybe he also sees how frustrated/unhappy Reid is when the Irish squads are announced and would rather have one of his most important players in a happy frame of mind.

I saw that earlier Donal! Fair play to the lad, I think that was for charity.

Trap was at home, just about to give Andy a ring to invite him back to the squad, when this popped up on the telly and all the horror of that late night flashed back through his mind.

Thats also a possibility, maybe even a more likely scenario but aren't Sunderland being strongly linked with the young left winger from Middlesborough...Johnson? Some papers are suggesting that the deal is as good as done, that can't be good for Reid, I may be way off here but isn't he playing most of his football out wide right now?

He did play most of the early part of the season left wing but recently he played centre mid and in once such game Jonathon Pearce from 5 Live gave this review of his performance against Spurs..

"Last Saturday, however, I saw Reid turn in one of the most thrilling central midfield performances I have seen this season.
It is in that role where he could provide the creative balance for the dependable Glenn Whelan or Keith Andrews - he simply ran the show against Tottenham. One minute he was unleashing a perfectly executed 30-yard lob shot against the post and the next he was picking up the ball deep in his own half. His range of long and short passing was astute and accurate. He had the strength to win block tackles and the turn of foot to avoid challenges too and he was desperately unlucky to finish on the losing side"
“I’d always play Pirlo but Trapatoni says his first concern is to avoid losing goals. The truth is that we didn’t know what we were doing out there" Gennaro Gattuso, June 2004.
