But he'd surely have had a wealth of quality options then. He most certainly doesn't have that now with Ireland.

Well, the way the press hammer on about Reid, you'd think he really was!

It cannot do any harm and even if Andy Reid would struggle to fit into Traps system of playing he would surely add more than Miller does to the squad.

I think Quinn is a diplomatic fella and is ideally placed to plead Andy's case with the management team.

That said, I think the media have really turned Trap off Reid by sensationalizing the whole thing.

I think Reid should be in the squad, but it's not as big an issue as is made out in some quarters.

The reporter who said "the Irish people demand it" (in relation to Reid's inclusion) following the draw with Italy was ridiculous, and probably did more harm than good for Andy's case.

This is getting a bit ridiculous, Bertie Ahern was even chiming in with an opinion in the News of the World in the last couple of weeks.

If I were Andy Reid I'd be mortified, in my opinion all the guff surrounding the call up is detracting from the fact that he is (along with Dunne perhaps) the form Irish player in the Premier League right now

Quinn should stay the f*ck out of it and should know better.

This would be about the worst possible game to introduce Reid back to the squad. I think Reid is a good player and valuable as a squad member but this game is not the time.

It would be an unwanted and lurid side show to the ultimate goal - qualifying.

More than ever, Trapp needs to stick to his guns on this one.

has there been a Saint Niall canonised yet? Is this what Quinn is going for? What a slut.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.

Was listening to Brian Kerr getting interviewed after the draw yesterday and he was talkin about when we should have beaten the French in Paris. The radio presenter(might have been Joe Duffy but cant rememeber) said that we had Roy Keane and Andy Reid in the team that day and we dont have players of that caliber anymore...Reidy has always been one of my favorite players but that to me showed the bullsh1t has gotten totally out of control.
    Its really not that complicated!!!

It's a fair comment, if John O'Shea had clipped the ball with his instep, instead of the point of his boot, then we would have been 1 up

He'll be back in the squad next year for sure. Trap will re-evaluate after this campaign i reckon.

I think Trap is playing a game of proving who's boss.

If Reid comes back and plays well, people will say, ah maybe Trap isn't so great after all, he got it wrong about Andy Reid. (I'm thinking mainly the RTE pundits here who have tried to pick every Irish team for the last 30 years, without having to face the consequences if they get it wrong).

This seems to be a story of two big egos, Andy Reid's and Trap's and neither is willing to do a U Turn or back down.

If I was Andy Reid, I'd put aside his pride and apologise or do whatever because he cannot pick himself and has to do something to show committment to the Irish team.

What are you talking about?? Andy Reid won’t do a U-Turn?! Where are you getting this stuff from? What has Andy to back down from, playing well in the EPL and wanting to play for us

There is nothing anywhere to suggest that Trap is waiting for an apology of any sort. Reid is begging to get in to the team. !

The ONLY EGO here is Trap’s, full stop, and looks like there is no chance of him overcoming this.

Given that we are not going to South Africa, it will be a long time before Andy togs out for Ireland again, if ever.

Who picks the team, Trap or Andy Reid?

Like I said, if he wants to play for Ireland bad enough, whether he was in the right or wrong, just say sorry, if that's what needs to be done, even if he did no wrong.

Otherwise it seems clear Trap won't pick him.

If he says sorry and Trap still doesn't pick him, it's clear Reid doesn't fit into Trap's plans.

There can be only one manager.

Why is it people who haven't managed an U10 soccer team think they know more about football than Trap who has 23 major trophies under his belt?

Trap is not a fool, I wish people would get that through their heads.
