Reid out of Republic squad through injury - RTE Sport
The Republic of Ireland squad trained without the injured Andy Reid in Malahide this morning prior to their departure for a week long training camp in Portugal.
Manager Giovanni Trappatoni has revealed that midfielder Reid will not be travelling with the squad due to his injury.
Goalkeeper Colin Doyle is also a doubt with a knee problem and will be assessed by doctors before being declared fit to travel.
The squad depart for Portugal later this afternoon and Trappatoni is happy with what he has seen thus far.
'I met the squad and we had a good training session in Malahide,' he said yesterday.
'The players have had a little bit of time off and it was good to get them going again.
'I am very pleased with the application of the players and I explained to them that this period of time together will give me an opportunity to get to know the players and it will give them a chance to familiarise themselves with my methods.
'From this point of view it went very well.'
Quoting years at random since 1975
Not blaming Reid at all, as far as I know he at least turned up. But I just feel with the whole lot of withdfrawals and players in the wilderness (SI), this trip and brace of matches are nearly turning into as much of a farce as the US this time last year.
San Marino are going to be a handful as the group goes on." - Steve Staunton reacts to performance against San Marino.
really poor show from some of the players. still, it will give the likes of garvan, whelan, foley and scannell a genuine chance to impress.
Andy Reid sets up Cisse with a 60 yard pass up forward.![]()
Wonderful ball from Reidy, weighted to perfection.
How's your french

watched the entire game, great vision from Reid for the goal and he put in some absolutely quality crosses. To be fair, there are far worse players playing for Sunderland in terms of attacking and defending. Whitehead was abysmal, Malbranque inneffective.
Reid did run out of steam though, was slow tracking back in the
2nd half and was substituted on 77mins i think.
I like high energy football. A little bit rock and roll. Many finishes instead of waiting for the perfect one.
I only watched highlights to be fair but everything Sunderland did seeme to go through Reid, outstanding ball for the first goal.
mon pere est prof de francais et il....they said basically the stadium of light was full of applause for the goal, the technique of andy reid was perfect and that the marking was poor.
that was one of the best passes ever seen on a pitch it has to be, he came across the ball and swerved it into cisses path, however there was still a serious amount of work to do to finish it, poor defending but great piece of play and finishing by cisse.
I'm a bloke,I'm an ocker
And I really love your knockers,I'm a labourer by day,
I **** up all me pay,Watching footy on TV,
Just feed me more VB,Just pour my beer,And get my smokes, And go away
Yes good pass, but if you think it was one of the best passes you have seen you need to get out a bit more. Andy Reid played well but he also made one very bad cross field ball where Sunderland lost procession and Portsmouth nearly punished them.
Reid was decent against Liverpool in first game of the season, reports say he played very well in the next game against Spurs, Sunderland get beaten 3-0 against City and Reid is dropped. Decent game against Arsenal in a 1-1 draw (Ronnie Whelan saying he should send a DVD of the game to Trap), dropped for the following game. By all accounts Sunderland's best player along with Cisse against Portsmouth, dropped for todays game.
Keane said this:
"Trapattoni might have a prototype of what players should be like or look like. If some players do not fall into that category, there is a good chance they will not be picked.
When you look at the players selected last time, even the ones ahead of Liam Miller, lads like Whelan had not been playing at Stoke, young Gibson at United, so Trapattoni obviously has his own ideas. If he sat down and off the record gave his reasons why he is not picking certain players I bet you'd think, yes, I can see why. Let's not play dumb here."
Actually happy Sunderland lost today. I really am very biased towards Reid.![]()
Keane says he is astonished by the publicity the issue has attracted, and has told Reid to view his absence from the squad as a challenge.
'What's the big deal? It's the manager's choice, and the manager has got more experience than we will ever dream of. If he thinks Reidy is not in his plans at this moment in time, then that's a challenge to Reidy. That's all it is, it's a challenge to him', said Keane.
